B8 S4 headers bank or bust?

Just got back from la for a weeding. Had the giac stage 2 file loaded, with the awe pulley and cooler.

They also pulled my dsg file to build a tcu file for the car, so that will be next.

Car is a monster. Really helps pull the car strong all the way to redline.

I’ll report back with strip times when I find some time. Summertime in the northwest is busy busy as we pack a lot in for the sunny months.

Ciao

So I put the kids to bed and hopped over to the track. Weather is super nice for boating, bad for dragging. Oh well, I had to see what it could do with a super bad DA.

DA: 1407
Stage 2 GIAC
Pump 91 file
New mods from last time: AWE intercooler and APR Coolant Separator/Reservoir

12.38 @111 was my best time, used launch control each run for the fun of it.

Oh yeah, half a tank of gas and a spare tire in the trunk.

It was a happenstance event, so I basically just rolled up with my helmet in lap, did three laps, and bombed home for desert with friends. I love summers in the northwest (late sunset)

How late is sunset out there? What was the da when you ran? Et is solid for summer.

P. S. 12.23 @ 111 was actually your best

Sunset is 9:15

DA was 1400’s with my DA checker app when I got there…

P.S. Beer made me “slip” lol

Nice runs for those da’s
Can’t wait to see what your and a lot others run this fall/winter… mid 11s from many more than before i hope! !!!

Question, what wheel/tire combo did you use and was there any weight reduction ? I.e. lw rotors…full interior?
Thx

Great times IMO considering the DA, especially for 91 file. Really can’t wait to see how our cars run in the fall.
I will run mine at Waterfest next weekend regardless of DA, hopefully the lines won’t be that bad in the morning.

he already ran in the spring with epic density altitude and went 12.2 @ 114 on race gas and 12.15 @ 113 on pump.

Not sure a pulley is going to shave 7 tenths off that. Maybe one or two?

That was with Stage 1 though. Primetime has a gap of almost 3/10 between his race gas and 93 oct runs. 11.694 and 11.934 respectively, so I think there is still plenty of room for improvement once we start getting better DAs.

My goal is 11’s on pump gas. I’ll make some race gas passes after I make that, who knows it might be impossible with a 91 file. I might have to add in a gallon of race gas to make it happen

ER, I have a Stoptech BBK, BBS CHR and Michelin PSS shod in 255/35R19.

Saki, you switched the times…its 12.1 on race gas and 12.2 on pump stage uno.

I said that right there…that I don’t think the pulley is a huge dealbreaker. FYI that’s 0.24 seconds. I said “maybe 1 or 2 (tenths).”

Anyway, your examples are both stage 2. primetime’s 11.69 was on race gas stage 2. primetime’s 11.93 was on pump gas stage 2.

We don;'t really have many before/after pulley times from B8 guys.

I would say “2 to 3 tenths” is more appropriate for the pulley gains.

that’s right, my error

12.15 vs. 12.20 right?

all speculation (by all of us since we don’t have much data)

What are you guys seeing on the dyno from the pulley? 20 whp? That’s about 2 tenths in most cases.

30 whp, but its the torque curve that has the most effect in my opinion. Gets you off the line faster and earlier…

Here is AWE’s DSG dyno chart:

I am gonna do a dyno day here shortly…so we will find out

APR says 11 whp

Any independant dynos?

none that I am aware of.

Nobody has dyno’d stock, 1 & 2 independently on the same dyno yet.

More data on the headers. From AZ:

[QUOTE=Jones2012s4;8893219]Track: http://www.stthomasracewaypark.com/
DA: 2550
ET: 12.995 @ 105.91
MODS: AWE Exhaust(Resonated), Roc-Euro Intake, Eurocode Headers
Launch Control: Yes
ECU: Stock
Fuel: 94 Octane
Other: 1/4 tank of gas, spare removed,

Not bad considering the DA. My last run was 13.01 with a negative DA and I have only added headers. Improvement in my eyes. Pulley and Tune to come!

He seems to think it’s an improvement, but I’m not so sure. His header-less run was 13.01 in negative (albeit unspecified) DA, and he ran damn near the same time with the headers. I get that the conditions were worse - just not convinced that the headers helped him that much.

What do you guys think?

Edit: to clarify, I’m talking about improvement relative to the expenditure - $2300 for the headers + $1500-$2000 in labor.

They are not that much.
