B8 S4 performance expectations conversations thread.

Interesting!
I got my figure from an online publication.
Question about westwest’s car: Is it manual or auto? The autobox is 60+ lbs heavier. Plus the B8 has the power steering assembly up front (b8.5 drops 5lbs off the front end). And B8 has a heavier center diff.

Not sure if all of the above accounts for 1% weight distribution, but it’s possible.

West is rocking a manual I believe.

We installed the JHM LWFW/Clutch Combo on his car, so yeah he has a 6MT unless he did a swap ;D

This is something that every forum should have. What a great wealth of information. I’d love to hear what the sound faker actually sounds like. How incredibly interesting.

I’ve done VCDS coding for a handful of B8.5 S4/S5 guys, and half of them didn’t know about the artificial piped in exhaust sound. Half of those people were genuinely saddened when I told them, felt like telling a kid there’s no Santa. :o

^+1 Was so happy to pull the fuse when I put my exhaust on last weekend.

Is this actually part of the exhaust? Care to share a picture? Is this an amplifier to the exhaust so it can be heard in the cabin?

It is just a fuse in the panel that powers the soundaktor which pipes fabricated exhaust sounds through the speakers into the cabin.

Not sure if this would already be covered under another section, but wheels/tires might be another good section covering effects of size, type, pressure, etc and the impact on performance.

Model specific technique at the track might be a good section also.

Ron, you’re a wizard, and an excellent writer as well!

Hi everyone I’m new to the forum but thought I’d add my 2 cents. We wanted some info on the B8.5 DSG cars, correct…? I was in E-Town this last Wednesday…I ran a best of 12.861 at 107 with DA’s between 2100-2400. That was when my LC worked…lol. The Mods are APR Stage 2 with pulley, 93 octane Sunoco, eurocode tube and AFR dry flo S filter. Would have loved to go a lot quicker but it wasn’t so. I’ll be waiting for the fall/winter to see if my times improve. Hope this helps add to the database.

2013 or 2014?

welcome to the forum

Would like to know: These 2014+ tune issues…does it also affect stage 1, or is the issue primarily around stage 2 not actually working as it should?

the issue isn’t boost related…we have seen the software’s ability to tell the boost bleedoff controller to close so that should mean it is not related to 1 vs. 2 or vice versa. The pulley is a physical way to make the blower spin faster, and again, the cars are making adequate boost and no bleedoff.

The issue is apparently the car putting itself into some sort of limp mode, running extremely conservative ignition timing values.

As to whether that limp mode condition is happening ONLY to stage 2 cars vs. stage 1 cars, that is a good question (likely what you were asking really). I’m reasonably sure we’ve heard stage 1 guys complain as well but that would be good to confirm.

2013, thank you it’s great being here.

Welcome to the forum. Being that you’re a 2013 I’d suggest making an introduction thread and posting your time alongside your modifications list. It will help others that are experiencing questions about performance. It also gives you a great chance to show off your car.

so a 2013 will still have the impaired rev limiter, yes?

seems that if you’re a 2013 DSG, you either need to go GIAC, or hope APR has their DSG tune soon
if you’re a 2013 MT, you take your pic
if you’re a 2014 anything, you need to sit back and wait till the tuners get the files up to snuff

I will as soon as I can…
