Maybe I’m alone here but shifting at 5800 vs 7000 in my car would make a huge difference in performance. Are the 2013+ guys really confused by the performance difference given this RPM difference? Is this what a lot of the fuss is about? The 2013+ guys are thinking they’re supposed to get 2010 results regardless of the big difference in shift RPM? Or are there other factors that come into play?
It honestly seems like the newer crowd just hasn’t or doesn’t want to do any research and just expect the same results as the best. It’s not so simple, especially with a reduced redline. Without a TCU tune,
You are leaving so much on the table with 2013+.
They seem like a new and ignorant crowd so far. There is so much information available but nobody searches or reads any of it.
So wouldn’t the 8.5 then make significantly less power than a b8? The shift point difference is huge in terms of HP… How can they still rate it at the same hp and speed specs from the manufacturer? Seems like a step backwards.
Because don’t forget that the b8 cars are making peak hp really early, not near redline. The car is full rocket tvs1320 up until 5500 rpm where the boost bypass owns up and power flattened from there. If you Rev limit at 6300, 6600 or 7000 it doesn’t matter.
drob, why would you have to look at thrust curves and 4 gears when asking about single gear peak hp for a stock car? (which meistah was asking)
Here’s a reminder:
The peak hp (advertised) is not down at all. Take a dyno from a stock DSG B8 pre facelift and lop off the last 800 RPM, and you’ll see that peak hp and torque are still the same.
Ah, misread the post you were replying to, wouldn’t the advertized peak number be crank anyways? I guess top speed (if they give higher than tire ratings) would reflect ratios though. Dyno should be done as close to 1-1 as possible, correct? And then thrown in as a correction? I’ve never dyno’d a car as you can tell.
I just assumed we were talking acceleration performance here, since that’s what really matters, my bad :-.
If anyone can get some hard figures on gear ratio and wants to break down the shifting speeds let me know. I think it’s important to update the original post with this information and the differences in the shifting.
Yea, this is a nice thread for sure, I’m interested in learning more. AZ supposedly is making a wiki in the B8 section…but that was announced 4 years ago and still no dice.
Message boards can be really useful, but the saturation of posts on the same topics make searching really hard, even with teh google.
Thanks guys! Like drob mentioned the intent is to make this thread as comprehensive from a performance standpoint as possible so it is like one stop shopping with accurate information and good folks who can offer honest and real world experiences… I’m hoping others join in and want to contribute as well… I’ve said it before but it’s also nice the CV is willing to share more knowledge with us as he can bring a lot to the B8 platform…
awsome info, will contribute very soon. Not sure why people don’t do there homework, you ned to know the platform to properly tune and run that’s just my opinion.
I believe West weighed his S4 and got something like 56/44 F/R weight distribution with no passengers and a 1/2 tank of gas. Can find it in his “achievement unlocked thread” lol
