Cool, I’ll take a look at your thread. Sounds like you’ve gone deep into your pockets $$$. This is exactly why I’ve decided that the b8 S4 is simply a vehicle to do some parade laps occasionally…7 or 8 tenths and call it a day. Way too much weight to be tossing it around without any real accomplishments other than personal satisfaction. Really sucks as I’d love to see Audi’s involved *competitively in grassroots racing.
AWE ran a pretty raced out B8.5 S4 in a SCCA national championship class (T3 if my memory serves me right?). I believe they lost to a 370Z and of all things, a V6 mustang.
bahahahahahahhaha.
I laugh but also not surprised. B8 is a fantastic all rounder. But up against more purposeful sports cars, it is no comparison.
I’m with Ring It Out - the car is great for bringing to the track. You can even get some good lap times out of it. But cost of consumables is high due to the push and weight, and ultimately it is not balanced. Still, it will/can be enjoyed out there.
I am hooooooping for -3 or more front camber next season and mayyyyyybe it’ll cure some of the tire wear issues. For most folks, the B8 is good enough for some lapping. Heck–it might even be too much car. In the end though, you are throwing around a 4000lb, nose heavy, awd car. Do not expect a miracle
Heh that car is an S-Tronic. That doesn’t help. Looks like they were running stock brakes with cooling, then RS5 OE brakes. Build thread: http://livefromgermantown.com/2014/05/29/2072/
Beat by V6 mustang doe.
Single ball joint mac strut front end + solid axle rear end.
Noooooooo dynamic camber at all out back, and no toe! Don’t forget It’s like a horse drawn carriage compared to the sophistication of the B8.
$23k rental car vs $50k performance sedan!
Funny thing though is that the 23k rental car has way more geometry altering options for the back end than the B8 does…as the B8 has none (talking about roll center, anti squat, instant center, anti dive, roll steer).
Stanford programmed a TT-S to drive around Thunderhill. That’s a pretty nerve racking thing to read in the news, because it would be pretty embarrassing if the computer was faster than me.
Looks like it does 2:15, for now. They make it faster every year. Admittedly, I’m not even sure I could do a 2:15 in that TT-S.
From Laguna. Seems like I was running about a 1:48 in light traffic. A year ago I was running about 1:53. Two years ago I was running about 1:57. [referencing my old posts on vendorzine]
1:43 would be about as good as it gets in cars of this class (german sports coupes/sedans).
That was very light traffic for Laguna, and no one really held me up. I’ve been on the field with 36 cars before at a BMW event. This group didn’t have any GT3 or 911 Turbo, so I was one of the two fastest.
Here’s another video with a 1:46 lap I did with a Lotus on my tail keeping me honest.
That was an interesting watch. The squeezing was a little hard to enjoy but the blower noise let’s you know when your really going for it. The Ferrari just ahead of you at the start had me interested to see if you could catch and pass him. I started to worry when the vet blew by both of you and the Ferrari would get away from you on the straights but you past him. Fun watch.
The Vette was a new Z06. It’s capable of going 10 seconds a lap faster than we were, which is pretty absurd. You can’t see it in the video, but the 458 tailed me for the laps in the middle until I let him by again.
That z06 sounds absurd. 10 seconds wow that’s crazy. Still it was cool to see you pass the Ferrari. He was much faster in the straights so you knew it wouldn’t last.
Where’s the z06? And why haven’t you invested in an audiotechnica lavalier microphone that you can attach to your bumper for better sound?
Gopro sound is all but useless.
Here’s rear bumper sound with that microphone… Atr30 maybe? Check our gopro thread
