Extremely pumped! Got home from the office early and the wife was at the pool/gym with my son so I figured I would take a spin… Was going to drive the RS but decided to take the S4 instead since I don’t drive it much… Heck I don’t drive either of them much! LOL So tooling around enjoying some tunes and the nice cool weather when I got stopped at a light on a 4 lane state route with 2 lanes in both directions with a medium in the middle…
It’s a long light as traffic empty’s from the highway and then a turn lane from the other direction gets to enter the highway which allows the traffic coming off the highway to clear out… I am first in line in the right lane and see a Corvette approaching in my rearview, when I notice the hood vent, damn it’s a Z06 I realize… He is coming up behind me when I notice his hood lift as he accelerates to get in front of the car in the left lane… Nice! He rolls up very very slowly and gets next to me… I already had the windows down as did he… He gives me a head nod and I do the same as I turn the tunes down… I say sweet car and he say thanks, that’s a nice S4. I say thanks and ask if he has any mods, he says just a catback and intake… He then kind of chuckles and says I know your modded… I’m like yep it’s a stage II car with tune, pulley, intake and exhaust… I then ask if he wants to do a quick run… It’s a very safe place to make a run for the folks who are going to bitch about me street racing… He’s like sure… Game on!
By now the cars are turning on to the highway from the other side of the street… I’m pretty sure we were both watching the lights at this point but I think he was confident that he would walk me as he let me get the hit… Big mistake! So our light turns green and I was ready as if I was at the strip… I see green and I dump the brake and hammer the gas and the car straight hooks as it always does… I instantly pulled 2+ cars on him and it didn’t sound like he spun but I think he launched off idle or a little above so the car bogged and that was all that it took… The 1-2 shift was hard and no delay and I could see him in my rearview but he was now coming hard… I ran through second and hit third and then shut down a little into third at about 90ish and with him probably 1-2 cars behind! Obviously, I was feeling good… He rolls up and gives me a thumbs up and screams man that car is quick! I kind of chuckled and said thanks! He then says lets go from a roll! I start laughing as I know how this is going to turn out…
We slow down to about 40 and I shift into second and he honks it off, 1 – 2 – 3 and I hammer it as does he… Not sure if he is in first or second but he instantly puts 1 car then 2 cars then 3 cars on me so I shut down at 100ish with him 3 or so cars ahead… It’s a 60mph road and I wasn’t going to come back obviously so no sense in risking it… He slows up and is all smiles as I am… We both waive to each other and then give thumbs up… I hit the next exit and wave again… Good car dude obviously and I am sure he felt the same… Haven’t seen the car around so not sure if he is local…
Overall, very happy with the S… He is at a disadvantage on street tires from a dig but man those cars are MONSTERS from a roll… I am not sure I could have taken him in my old mustang which ran low 11’s… Headed home happy and figured I would share with you guys… Can’t wait for the new blower! Doubt it would have mattered from a roll though…
I’m glad you gave him his roll race after you won the dig. It shows that some, if not most, Audi owners have class.
