You can try removing everything so that you have more room to work with it. Then heat it up hotter and hammer it or try the press. Usually I never could get a good angle to press the bolt out with. At the worst case scenario you need to buy a whole new wheel bearing housing which costs just over $400 each.
I normally agree with this but there are some nice cheap crap tools for certain jobs. For instance my small harbor freight air hammer works wonders for knocking the ball joints of the upper control arms out of the wheel bearing housing after you get the pinch bolt out.
I needed to use mine to pop the control arms out. I literally fucked around for 2 hours trying to pound them out because my compressor wasn’t set up at our new place and I got so pissed I gave up for the night. I set the compressor up the next morning (about 25minutes) went over with my air hammer and it literally took me 30secs to pop them out. Everything is setup now, but I hate when I waste my own time…especially when I have a pretty nice stash of tools.
The pinch bolt came out fine.
Hit the pinch bolt with an impact and see if it will walk itself out.
I haven’t even got my compressor to my house yet. im looking for torches right now. honestly I don’t think the air hammer will work without heat. im gonna buy some acetylene and ill try getting it glowing and hitting it. if that doesn’t work ill get my compressor hooked up and then heat it and use an air hammer.
I still use my good ol tuning fork for the ball joints.
so far no luck on torches trying to find a set used, waiting on replies from a few ppl on kijiji. I did go get my compressor today though so were moving in the right direction.
this is turning into a garage build thread lol. grab some 14-3 wire and a double 15 breaker tomorrow and get it goin.
add another “agreed” to the air hammer suggestion. I had been in the same situation; too much time was spent on getting that pinch bolt freed and the air hammer moved it out with ease.
air hammer does absolutely nothing lol. compressor is hooked up and torches have been bought. I had to heat the aluminum red and and beat it out with a 5 pound sledge, each time I would beat it it would move about half an inch then I needed to reheat it was really really in there. im thinking these are original from the factory. the balljoints need replacing so does the tie rod and the drc lines but I have the shock out.
drc lines are extremely brittle Im gonna order those all around. looks like im gonna have to go to the stealership for a recharge.
Congrats on getting the pinch bolt out. That thing is a bitch for sure. I too had no luck with an air hammer.
As far as the kit goes, that’s a great price and a nice guarantee but I’ve never heard of that brand before. Are you willing to try them out to save a little over $100 I guess is the question unless somebody has experience with them and can back them up. The same exact kit can be bought from JHM but they’re made by 034 Motorsports for $440.
Hey badtoyz, to be completely honest the fronts don’t need compressed. I compressed one side of the FRONT, but the spring needed very little compressing before it moved freely.
I’m not trying to kill you here…haha, but you can just hit the nut holding the upper strut mount on with an impact and you’ll be fine. Re-install is fine too because the H&R are shorter than OEM.
Also, rockauto.com sells a whole front UCA/LCA/tierod end kit for $225 (MOOG)…an awesome price! I am personally going with the 034 kit with upgraded bushings, but just wanted to put that out there.
Same here, maybe he had shitty circumstances, like parts weren’t available to ship. I did have to wait on 034 motor mounts once, for a few weeks, but honestly everything else has been pretty fast.
who knows, they were out of the 5R pp when I ordered, its in now. now im just waiting for the ac lines and then my parts will be shipped out. my exhaust I ordered right when a group buy came in from france so I had to wait 2 mos before they shipped it out. even my spacers took a couple weeks.
im probably just unlucky and always order when theyre out of stock.
Get it shipped to CBI international in niagara falls and go pick it up. Their ‘within usa’ shipping options are much quicker and much cheaper than shipping to us
