badtoyz build thread.

Technically, yeah you’re supposed to declare. You could get lucky and they’ll waive you through. Or they could do a spot check and you’ll get in trouble.

In fact it’s the same thing if you had the parts installed on the car before you drove back over. That’s a lot harder to spot than a box of parts, but people get busted quite a bit for things like winter tires. Usually by keeping the receipt on them.

^thats right, completely forgot that. I remember Dan testing the 5R now and saying it was a 6 puck which was the difference in strength and finally ditches the SAC mechanism.

Yea from what I recall it is a new pressure plate with a stronger clamping force vs using the RS4 one. But don’t know from who or specs. Doesn’t really matter though, cause it obviously works and holds up to the abuse!

Best of luck with the install. Take your time and try not to get focused on “finishing” rather than just completing each little job.

at last!!!

looking good man, all them parts look a bit daunting at first but its a piece of cake really just take your time and you will be fine. you do have the ‘easy’ l/h/d kit after all!.

did you order the jhm oil cooler lines with the kit or are you hoping you can reuse the standard lines?.

anyway good luck, not that you will need it as the collective knowledge on this forum is second to none.

i will try and make the time to keep checking in to see how you are going.

super super exited for you, i cant wait to get my hands on a stage 2 kit to install…

not sure on clamping force but its 034 motorsports they work with. and I think the pp is ACT, someone correct me if im wrong. I remember reading threads on audizoo with everyone arguing about whether or not its ACT or not, personally I don’t care, ACT is quality and theres nothing wrong with outsourcing, everyone does it. so if anyone can answer this for the record go for it cuz I cant.

thanks sar, ya I cant wait for the air to water intercooler too. ill be ordering that as soon as I can. any reviews on your car yet?

Badtoyz any chance on doing a install thread just like Sar. Make a thread and block off the first 6 posts for the build thread and progression of it. You can link the two threads with a link fro, one to the other. But I think it looks great when you can follow the install with its own post. Otherwise you have an 80 page thread with all the meat and potatoes hidden.

ya sure if u think that will help. ill start one with bumper removal on Monday. ill post all the links I use like jhms trio install and sc instructions and whatnot, and ill do a separate one for the clutch and trio.

im going to attempt to reuse but im not very optimistic. I want to get everything apart and check the mounts and so on so I can make a list to order whatever else I may need. I still need to find a little bit ratchet to get the bolts on the back of the intake too.

I’ll have some clutch stuff soon man. I have some good tips and very necessary tools because space is pretty limited in most areas.

right on man, shoot me the link if u do the DIY id love to look it over before I attack mine.

I’ll start a DIY tomorrow at work.lol

I mostly used the Bentley manual procedures, but I wrote down torque and socket sizes. I’ll also give some tool tips to make access to some of the annoying bolts easier.

We will make it an open discussion/DIY for people that have any input, then when you do your install you can add anything helpful you ran across.

After that we can re-organize it and add it to the DIY, it should be pretty detailed for the next guys trying to concur the task. IT FUCKING SUCKS doing it on jack stands too!

ill be doing it on jack stands. ill get the car as high as possible but ya im doin it on my back. I do have a friend with a paint shop and a hoist if its totally necessary though. how much of a pain are we talkin about?

If I had access to a lift I would have never done it on my back again. This is the second time I’ve pulled a B7 transmission on my back. A lift would really speed things up too.

ill give it a go on my back, when im cursing and swearing later on u can say I toldja so lol. my buddy doesn’t have a full set of mechanics tools so id have to drag everything over there, I have some time before I do mine anyway maybe ill change my mind after seeing your DIY. if I can find a decent jack for the tranny that will work on stands id feel better about it. I was thing an atv/motorcycle jack might work well. I could make a little cradle out of 2x4s or something.

I plan to give you a pretty detailed list of tools…some are fucking life savers!!

I have this jack, I’ve got pretty good use out of it. But you could always buy it, use it, and then sell it off for a little less than you paid. It’s basically like renting one. I love buying and having tools though so I kept it.

shit for 150 bucks I would just keep it to, I spent more than that on my floor jack. plus im going to be pretty hard on this clutch so id keep the jack around just so I can pull the tranny whenever I need to do it again. I need to make a list and head over to princess auto and see what they have and anything im missing for your list ill get before I do it too.

harbour freight, are they online only. getting tired of spending a fortune in shipping.

I’m not sure if you guys have harbor freight, but I’m sure you have something comparable.

I also have the engine support from Harbor freight. Comes in very handy when doing subframe work or motor mount upgrades. It’s a required tool in the bentley manual for this job, it would be a pain to try and use multiple jacks or something.

Just hit the local Harbor Freight the other night to get everything I needed for my coilover install. Love that place. When I did my motor mounts I had the car on jack stands and jacked the engine up from underneath. Definitely not the most fun job I’ve ever done but I was able to pull it off. Wish I had that engine support though.

we have Princess Auto. Basically cheapish Chinese parts. Like the breaker bar I used to break about 100 wheel bolts over a couple of years, that snapped 3 days ago. It was about $25…and I got 2 years out of it, swapping wheels back and forth each spring/fall on 3 cars for 2 years or so. That’s about 12 sets of wheels, = 240 uses. Not awesome, but again, $25.

Haha, yeah a lot of harbor freight stuff is crap so you have to be careful. Some stuff is great and cheap though…I never usually buy tools from there, I stick to craftsman because if you break it they replace it with no questions (even if you were not using it properly).

I recently bought a low profile race jack from there that is pretty nice, works great.

I bought two of the low profile aluminium race jacks from harbour freight. Sale + coupon + membership = 2 for $120. They’re AWESOME for the money. For double the money they’re awesome, nevermind.

I bought those the last two times I went to the dirty D for JHM meets. The border guys are always unimmpressed when I tell them I was away 36 hours and bought a car jack…but when I tell them how much and show the bill, both times I got waved through.
