Barking Dog

I’ll start by saying that I love dogs. I had a few growing up and plan to have one again soon.

My neighbours dog barks all the time. Literally all the time. I’ve gone through the city bylaw department. They had me talk to the owners, file a complaint, and lastly record any instances of barking in excess of 30 mins over a 2 week period. Now it’s a point where I will have to go to court if I want to take it further.

Moving is always an option (renting right now) but my location is really convenient for work and other things, rent is a good price, and aside from the deranged dog it’s a good neighborhood. Anyone ever had to deal with something like this before??? Ultimately I would rather move than go to court, but I’ll be moving to a less convenient location and paying more all because of a stupid dog.

On a side note… what the hell is the point of a bylaw department if they don’t enforce anything. I have to do all the work for them, even gather witnesses if I go to court. Lame.

Maybe the one time living in an association helps. Isn’t there some noise ordnance for your city? That’d be under some sort of noise ordnance. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t. Perhaps call the city manager or code enforcement.

coolant…

Purchase a silent powerful dog whistle. Whenever the dog barks blast that fucker. After a while he might associate barking with that piercing noise he hears. They are useful training tools.

don’t even joke about that. Happened to someone I met once. Asshole neighbour killed the guys 8 year old german sheppard. Put some antifreeze in a waterdish in the guys backyard.

There are noise bylaws for the city, which the dog is in violation of. I’ve been in contact with the bylaw office for the past couple months. There has to be a way around it though, they don’t do sh*t…

Going up the flagpole is a good idea though, I’ll shoot an email off to the administration GM.

Here’s the bylaw page if anyone’s interested:

I’m a dog lover as well, but there is nothing I hate more in the world than a barking dog. And the reason I say that is because that tells me that the owner does not spend enough time training/playing with them. I hope you figure this out, because that would drive me nuts.

Are you on good terms with the owner? If so, perhaps they would consider a bark collar. You could even offer to pay for some of the cost. Look up “bark collar” on amazon. Some very highly rated models.

If not on good terms, then the ultrasonic bark deterrent is a viable option (mentioned by tsivas27)… but they don’t always work. Some are automated. Just mount it near the dog, and it emits a sharp ultrasonic sound whenever a bark is detected. Could be worth a try.

Call it a sick sense of humor and I was completely joking. I’m a dog lover that would never do a thing like that. I would be hard pressed not to kill a motherfucker if they killed my dog so that is a pretty messed up thing to do.

The dog probably barks because he is neglected and the owners don’t give a shit about him

I have seen the “spray” type bark collars work really well. Like in a matter of minutes. My dogs bark occasionally when they hear a weird noise, but they are usually really good so there hasn’t been a need for those devices. I did look up options when we had the baby though because there is nothing that can piss you off more than a dog barking at the wind and waking up a whiny kid. Luckily the kid sleeps like a rock like his dad.

If you go testify it will likely be a few hundred dollar fine. If it were you getting the fine, wouldn’t you like your due process and chance to clear your name in court? Or would you like to give police the right to fine you with no recourse?

Think about it…the bylaw officer isn’t there all the time and hearing the barking, enabling them to testify. They’re laying charges based on your evidence.

Wow, and here my mom received a letter from the city because her dog poops in her own backyard and sometimes my mom doesn’t have time to clean it up and the neighbours complained that when they happened to be looking at my mom’s backyard, they didn’t appreciate seeing a few turds lying around.

Yeah, that’s right, the neighbours don’t like seeing a few turds in my mom’s backyard so they complained to the city who in turn, sent my mom a letter.

Meanwhile, this dog won’t stop barking and is actually bothering people and your city won’t do squat…

Also try your local humane society. They’ll be able to come out and inspect for neglect possibly take the dog and find it a new home or educate the owners on proper dog care.

Make no mistake…meistah’s city have done something. They probably sent a bylaw officer over there to talk to the people.

Your mom got a letter which is less stern than a city officer in uniform showing up to talk to you.

They are really weird about it, wouldn’t give me a straight answer when I asked if someone had talked to them in person. From what they’ve told me the only communication has been via snail mail.

That being said, I KNOW someone from the bylaw office has gone by at some point, because when they asked me to confirm details about the dog they said “so it’s a dark coloured large german shepherd…” Which I never told them, so they must have been to the house.

I’m buying a place next year so I’ll just find somewhere else to rent in the meantime, can’t handle a year of the noise.

Is the property the dog is on a rental as well?

Going through their owner/management may be an option. Even better if they have a noise clause in their agreement.

No it’s the owner of the house’s dog.
