Beating Beem

A friend had this project car. He got kinda scammed. Loads of gremlins and issues, didn’t run. I was able to get the car alive, but still a long list of things to get fixed.

Some fun side notes:

The dash caught fire due to bad electrical wiring job. From the inspection this happened several times.

The rear differential case was cracked and the mounting brackets were cracked. One good bump away from falling out.

Motor seems like its hurt. Oh well, its a project. Still kinda runs. So it’s kinda like a B5 S4, but it runs ;D

Tadaa

Sweet body painted by a hand held paint brush. Its actually not bad when you realize it was done with a paint brush.

No need to comment that picture kinda speaks for its self. That’s what were dealing with.

The next picture makes it all worth while

One of the best motors Audi ever made.

nice, they should’ve used a paint roller and gotten that nice texture on it lol

K, do you have any recommendations on stand alone ECU’s for an I5? From what I’ve read the factory ECU somewhat limits what you can get out of the motors.

It’s hard to answer that question so, yes. Depending on your end goals, you then would be put into different direction for ECU management. Standalone offers a stripped down direct line to each system. That is true the OEM ECU will only support you to a point then you have to go full standalone.

For a car that is over 20 years old there a good amount of support still. Depending on what you want to do, 034 is the top place to get parts and support.

yeah I’ve been eyeing 034’s website for years since I’ve always wanted an I5. I was thinking their turbo kit may be a nice start, but the tinkering side of me wants to do it myself. I’ve been doing some industrial controls work on equipment much more valuable than a 20 year old motor recently and as a result have been thinking of giving a standalone/self tune a try.

But on topic, more details about the stealth bomber above if you can. For some reason it reminds me of the older Audi Senan was driving around.

VEMS has a plug and play module for the AAN. And as I understand it, Mark Swanson at EFI express provides excellent support.

Alas, 034 provide a PnP Turbo kit for the 2.3 NA though.

For good reason
