Before I bought my B6 S6 I read a lot of 'advice'. Now I know who was right.

Car went in for service and was offered a 2015 A6 3.0T Quattro.

First off, the car is amazing. It’s fast, way faster than I expected. In fact, I’m in awe of the potential of this motor. I mean with a tune and a pully, it has got to be panty dropping fast. The MMI would be a welcome upgrade, I just like that I can play my music without too much work. I also like that the mirrors fold automatically when the doors are locked.

That said, I would not trade my B6 S6 for a B7 A6 for a bunch of reasons. First the seats are not sexy and inviting, not bad at all, but no where near my seats in looks, confidence or comfort. Next, as nice as the MMI is, and the Google maps and 3D and all the other ‘bells and whistles’, I would still use the Waze app over the built in nav, and my aftermarket AMI works well enough. I’ve gotten used to tucking my own mirrors in when I park. The gas savings for me is not that drastic for me. Trip computer has it at like 19 MPG, which is not a significant improvement because at the end of the day, the sound alone of the V10 is something I wouldn’t want to live without. The new A6 is fast, but completely soulless.

So, another thanks to V8A6 for making the threads that reassured me, and to everyone else here, I’m so much happier with the v10 over the 3.0 that I wouldn’t trade for a current model A6.

you mean C6 and C7? Just in case you care, a moderator can make a change for you to avoid confusion.

Sound alone is a gigantic factor in determining happiness with a car. Frankly, all of these cars are fast. The grand majority of your interaction iwth your daily driver is the feel of the seats, the features inside, the road feel of the car (steering, handling) and the sound it makes. Very rarely are you testing the top end acceleration capabilities.

To that end, a car that makes you smile and turns heads with an epic sound is fun as hell.

What’s the aftermarket AMI? I need an Aux IN for BT streaming

Whoops! Yes totally meant C6 and C7!

I was speaking more of the general consensus that the 3.0 is superior to the 5.2 on some other forums. I think it’s a great engine in a great car but considering my car is ~8 years old, I wouldn’t trade. In fact, they are waiting on parts and I’ll have the brand new A6 for the holiday weekend and I’m car sick. I miss my car so much especially now that it’s all buttoned up.

I’m using the VNS media device that hooks into the MMI system and let’s you, at least in theory, stream from the phone. However I ended up running a cable through the dash blank and I just plug my phone in. It works way better than any of the BT setups I’ve tried. That is one feature of the 2015 car that I would love to have.

Once I get my car back I’ll post pictures of my setup.

Great post. I think you are so right. The newer cars just dont seem to have the soul the older cars have. Not that 07 is that old but the V10 S cars are great cars. Something that isnt going to be seen for a long time to come. I think the performance of the V10 will start to take off due to this forum and the guys in it. There is a lot going on now and it looks like its only getting better

Agreed, great post.

I often look at the newer S6 and S7s, and they only remind me what a steal the v10 S6 is in the used market. For those who unlock the full potential of the v10, I think you’ll find that it really is a flagship engine, and there is a reason why a version of it is used in the v10 R8s and Gallardos.

I think the A7/S7/RS7 look very cool because they are different and new. But, when I step back and compare the C6 v10 and the A7/S7/RS7, the sedan has the cleaner, more aggressive shape, that will look good for years to come. Im not sure the A7 line is going to be viewed the same way. Especially since the 3.0t is in such a huge number of cars. Great engine, but not a v10. And you have to go to the S7 to get the nice seats, which is still about 2-4x the price of a v10 S6.

In any case, Im glad the the v10 S6 remains a hidden gem. There is a loyal following that I think will only grow with time. At the price you can pick one up on the used market, they really represent amazing value, if you dont mind putting some money into maintenance and/or mods.
