Best tank ever?

What was the best mileage you ever got out of your 4.2?

Not DIS indicated ‘miles to empty’ when you fill up…and not what the DIS said you averaged over the tank (trip computer 2 avg fuel)

What was the most miles you ever got out of a tank of gas on your B6/7 S4/RS4?

I will start. When I bought my B7 S4 in Atlanta, and drove it through 4-5 states to get back home, I managed to get 330 miles out of one tank (It was really 315 + 15 miles indicated till empty). This was travelling 100% highway, at 70 mph 90% of the time, with a few on/off ramps/tolls/blasts of speed for fun.

When I got my B7 RS4, I noticed that the fuel was consumed more rapidly than on the S4 when you got on it…but when you were more gentle with it, it was a lot better.

This past weekend I went on a long trip (about 80% highway + some 20% ‘city’ driving around a couple of towns at my destination. on the highway, I locked the cruise in at 110 km/h which is 70 MPH. I was conscious about it and made sure to just take it easy. Here are the numbers, calculated and DIS to get an idea how accurate the RS4 DIS is.

fuel used 58.01 litres a.k.a. 15.3 gallons (that’s what the tank took after I pulled of the highway to fill up on the way back home. There was likely about 20 miles more that I could have travelled as there should have been another gallon in the tank.
miles travelled 345.2
calculated MPG = 22.50
DIS indicated MPG = 22.7 (pretty accurate surprisingly…my b7 S4 DIS was off 10%)

Definitely better than any tank I have had. I think my best is around 300miles, 90% highway.

Lol I expect to see these types of threads on Audizine.

My best was about 290. I usually cruise at 80.

Let’s state our worst tanks too, for lolz. My worst was 140 or so

I think my worst S4 tank was around 200 miles. It was always pretty decent. The RS4 though I’ve been down under 200 before. 175 once I believe. Pretty amazing difference.

p.s. what’s wrong with threads like these? I have seen threads like this on every forum frankly, even the C6 RS6 forum on RS246…

I have memory blocks which protect me from the trauma of sub-160 mile-per-tank at the San Diego prices I was paying for gas.

But in all seriousness, I think I have only had a handful of fillups that averaged out to less than 14 miles per gallon.

unless you are filling up on PCH just south of Carmel (only station for miles…and the guy rapes with mental gas prices), I can safely bet you a Coke that your most expensive gas price in the last 5 years is not even as high as our lowest price in the last 5 years.

So don’t feel too bad!

Werd. Gas is my biggest expense after rent.

Yea I know you guys suffer on pricing where you are. On my last trip to Ireland I couldn’t believe how much petrol was there, and I’m sure you are in a similar situation.

375 calculated from tip tip top full till almost push. Could have gotten better but I drove city and raced a few friends before getting on the highway. I didn’t do major highway driving. This was driving the car for two weeks off and on. Also keep in mind I have headers and they really help

I got a boost vacuum gauge. If you watch the instant MPG and modulate your throttle you can jump 4 to 5 right there. Generally the Automatics can get better MPG due to the Tq converter unlocking.

Best I’ve got is 345. Basically 60-70 mph all highway miles. I’m breaking in my new clutch and last week got 275 with all local driving. I was pretty impressed. 400 miles to go before I can get on it, it’s tough.

Lowest was around 165 I think and the highest was around 360ish but that did include a few wot hits for fun and I probably had a gallon+ left in the tank.

My best using the old fashioned method (amount of fuel to full/distance measured by odo) is 10.5L/100km or 22.4mpg. I’ve never let my tank go below 1/4 in fear of not making it to the next station! That was only achieved after piggies/tune. Similar trips did not yield as good fuel economy with stock exhaust/tune. However, I have had fuel filter, plugs done since then.

My usual is about 15mpg and my worst was 10mpg. During an epic 3 day snow storm. I spent 3 days ferrying people around town. Best minicab service in the city!

As for cost, I’m collecting a lot of PetroPoints - if you get a PetroCanada Mastercard, you get 2c off every litre. Making a litre of 94 = about $1.43!

Best - ~310 miles

Worst - When I ran out of gas at 1/4 tank.

Best: 357 on 93 with slightly above E and 95% highway @ about ~75mph
Probably could’ve squeezed another 20 miles or so, but didn’t want to push my luck searching for another gas station in such a rural area.

Best city/highway combined: 250 miles and ran out of gas 1/4 mile from home and the gas station.
Best highway only: 340 miles
Worst, city only and driving fairly hard: 160 miles

wow lots of really really big tanks out of the group. I’m impressed.

360 all highway and filled up w/ ~20 miles left on the miles to empty counter

worst has to be one of my track days…prob under 100

hah yea i guess i drive like an a hole! i rember once i got around 315 miles…

First full tank when i got my S4 was 366 - I drove all of it in pretty much one night @ 45 mph cruising speeds with some enjoyment of a nice curvy road in IL near Starved Rock.

Worst was like 165, stressful week @ work will do it to ya.

I’m around 300 miles for my best and just under 200 for my worst.

I’m curious, how much does gas cost around your way? In Chicago were rocking the highest gas prices in the country at any given time. I just filled up and it cost $4.94/gallon. Luckily I don’t drive to work anymore because I used to spend around $600-$700 in gas a month.
