Big problem for me. Help please.

16399 - Bank 1: Camshaft B (Exhaust): Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded)
P0015 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded

I need one of these not both.

Which one of these is bank 1: Camshaft B ?

06C-103-107-D

06C-103-108-D

They are $699. Each new.
They are less than $200. on Ebay. I dont want used ones. Don’t know how long they will last.

The labor for this is the same as my TB labor.
This is going to cost me about $2200. including parts.
Water pump blew up also.
Water pump and gaskets are in the $2200.

Anyone know where to get these at a lower cost?

Thanks…

When did you have your TB done? was it at a shop? If it was recent the water pump at least should be warrantied. How much longer are you keeping your car? It’s a used car, nothing wrong with buying used parts for it as long as they are in good condition.

TB was done recently.
Water pump is covered not the labor.

Is your car running poorly? I’m not sure what symptoms come from that error, or what causes the error.

It started like this.

Driving to work an I get about a mile away from work when my center display starts flashing
“coolant” “coolant” “coolant” so I stop and open the hood.
Engine off smoke comes out and continues to come out from the right of the power steering pump.
Coolant is at the minimum line dead on. I didn’t think the light would come on not being that low.
I remove the oil refill cap and see oil froth on just the cap. So I checked the oil level.
I find oil froth on the dipstick just a little on the part that looks like a ball not on the measuring part.
I clean it off and check the oil level. Dipstick measuring part had almost no oil on it.
I called my house and asked someone to bring my extra oil from my room.
I added about 1.5Qt waited about 5 minutes and checked it again. It looked fine/where it should be.
So I started the car. No coolant flashing but still smoke and the car was running rough.
I had it towed to Induktion which is about the same distance from where I was to work.
Checked the CEL codes when I got it there and that code is what I got.

TIMING CASE SENSORS is the part Induktion says is bad.

Yikes… How many hours of labour is it?

TOO many.

$2200. for everyting.

:’(

As for where to find cheaper camshafts, Genuine Audi Parts has them for ~$521. I don’t know if you’ll find them cheaper, new anywhere else. Best of luck.

Lately, it seems that the 3.0’s are dropping like flies. I think I’m going to stop on my way home and buy like 50 rabbits feet and a few 4-leaf clovers or something :-\

As in dying? I think a bunch of us bought them around the same time and are just moving on.

Halo I would just buy used, that should take $1000 off the cost, bringing it to only $1200, if it ever happens again, which is unlikely, you would only be out of pocket $200 compared to doing it for $2200 right now. In fact, since you probably wouldn’t be doing the labour for the waterpump again it would be almost exactly the same price.

Its not the CAMS I am replacing its the CAM Timing case. Its as if I am doing the TB again.
There are two Timing cases for the CAMS. I can get CAMS for $300. each. Which I dont need.
I know I was thinking of replacing the cams but they don’t need to be replaced they are fine.

That is what I need. I am thinking of doing both. They are $699. each.
Thats why the labor is like $1300.

My timing case was damaged from the camshaft ring on the end that broke which is the whole reason they supersceeded the part to a new ring design on the end that doesn’t lock. I would definitly be prepared for other things needing replacing. Parts always break because of something. Its important to find the cause of the problem or you’ll likely be back in there again. You can try asking the shop to match gap’s prices to help the cost. This was on passenger side right?

I havent kept track of what side it was on. I am prepared to replace both of them if needed.

I keep seing people saying the code is caused by a simple oil clot.
Or the TB sliping a tooth. TB has less then 20k on it.

Induktion will take a close look at other things when they get the go ahead to do the work by me.

I am waiting on TAX money and to see if I can find a better price.

Here ya go dude…

I’d jump on that one fast if I were you. I don’t think its going to get any better than that.

I already got the Timing case and the repair has been done.
Motor runs fine now.

I am still having problems with the ABS/Wheel speed sensor after it has been replaced.
I keep getting the same CEL code.
I have been told that the module might be going bad.
Having it checked monday.

I have money waiting for the JHM Tune after some other thing are fixed.
The Tune is to get rid of my CEL code for the high flow CATS.

Where can you get camshafts for $300? I need them for my mother’s 2002 after I found this.

Which cams do you need?

You should definitly do some cleaning before you replace anything because that is filthy, I would either run a addtive through the oil and fuel, or at the very least and a safe play is to switch to a higher quality oil with detergents. I would highly reccomend Motul X-clean and then switching to just regular Motul after. I also read and saw some guy that used Rotella and from the before and after pics it looked brand new. But I’m a Motul fan and I know its one of the highest quality oils and I have no experience with other oils besides OEM. I would reccomend getting either a few bottles of genuine Audi fuel additive or BG44k, I have no experience with the latter but I’ve heard dealers use it and its a safe additive to be using. If you really want to go extreme you could seafoam everything, but that stuff is harsh and I have heard of people using it but I personally don’t trust it.

The noticeably damaged lifter and camshaft are on the passenger side exhaust. Before buying anything I need to take the valve covers off again and slowly turn the engine over to look at all the lobes of the four camshafts and the lifters for damage. Some of the other lifters look cracked so I was going to replace all the lifters with the 034 Motorsport’s hydraulic lifter kit since they are cheaper than new OEM parts from the dealership with my wholesale price.

Yes the engine is ugly on the inside but these cars used conventional oil for years with a extremely too long oil change interval. Remember Audi didn’t switch to synthetic engine oil until 2004 which is a large factor for why the 1.8Ts had such large oil sludge problems. The Mobil 1 that I am using will take forever to clean it up. Plus the fact that it is not driven very much doesn’t help either. I was thinking about having the machine shop soak the heads in the hot tank to clean them up but the cosmetics don’t bother me as much as the damaged lifter and camshaft. Since the valve stem seals usually go on these engines I would also have them replace those after cleaning up the heads.

All my cars get BG products like Quick Clean, MOA, and 44K because they work. Really like those three and I have found the 109 works well too but that is a one or two time use thing. For example, when I got my 2000 A6 2.7T around 193K miles and you could see that the heads were nasty by just looking through the oil filler cap. After four oil changes or around 210K miles I pulled the valve covers to fix the oil leaks as I was replacing the timing belt to find the heads looked great. Just saying that it takes some mileage to really see any cleaning action from the chemicals in the oil.

These are for a 3.0L A4

I can’t find the original place I found all for cams for about $299. each

Or put a bid on this?
