So when I bought the RS4, it came with a front plate holder…which I don’t run (despite it being the law). So I used my old front plate delete filler panel instead. Here’s how it looked (comparison below)
The problem is that it was pretty nicked up with probably 50,000 miles on it. I wanted to sand it down and repaint it nice and black. So I set about removing the 2 aluminium strips to preserve their aluminiumness…but it was a nightmarishly tedious process. About 20 clips hold them in. I snapped one of them at one point, so I abandoned this part…and just blacked the whole thing out. I figured if I really hated it, I could always just sell it and buy one with aluminium strips. I think they’re $120 new and like $50 used.
Anyway, it’s back on the car all black, and I actually think I prefer it. Those little lines were nice to break up the big mouth effect, but the all black looks quite a bit tougher, Titanium package style. Fortunately on Avus, the grille trim and window trim blends in with the paint sorta…so you can do a ghetto Titanium package by getting gunmetal wheels, blacking out your filler panel and you’re laughing.
What do you guys think? BlackBerry pictures, so not the best obviously.
