Blackstone Oil Report

I did a search, and I only found one topic where someone (SLVRRS4 - http://audirevolution.net/forum/index.php?topic=1585.0 ) posted their blackstone Labs oil analysis report. Thought I’d share mine - and see if anyone else is doing this on a regular basis to gauge the health of their engine internals. It would be good to see some comparisons with other folks. I’m not sure of their sample size on their “universal averages”…

here is mine:

what’s the process and what’s the cost each time? I’ve never done it and it would be cool to do it once at least.

Maybe its just folks post that get good reports but seems every one of these I read has the same flowery glowing review of how great their oil looks. I need to look closer and find some less than favorable remarks from them. Just seems odd that each one of these I have seen states very similar glowing reports of the internals health.

I kinda see that too. Also not too sure an all aluminum motor should see the same deposits like this.

I think it’s interesting to see the break down of the oil and the additional test for water coolant and fuel. For nothing more that should help give a wide idea on the health.

They send you a free sample kit which contains the forms and the testing vial. you take a sample during a regular oil change (mid way through the flow - oil piping hot) and send it off to them with $25. Turn around time is pretty quick once they receive it.

These seem to be more popular in the BMW community where there are some bearing issues that folks watch out for. I have seen a few reports from folks over there that are not glowing where blackstone pointed out elevated levels of different metals that were typically related to wearing engine internals.

Some folks also use the info to see if they should run their oil for longer intervals - measuring how the oil is holding up after X miles of use.

I’ve got a few posted in my thread. I send one in every oil change.
