Ah, the good ol’ days of EJ20T development, and the entertaining vendor flame wars. Shiv @ Vishnu and Pete/Phil @ TXS. Back when NASIOC was still called iClub, and ECU piggybacks were the latest thing.
Vishnu’s products were perceived as both expensive and unreliable. He responded negatively to owners who questioned his products. Bad move. I guess he went upmarket.
(Aside: the main subaru forum back in '02 had only a few thousand members who were primarily educated, critical, and focused on objectivity. Sound familiar?
By 2004, it had well over 10,000 members and turned into a mosh pit. Today, well over 300,000 members and threads read like the YouTube comments section.)
There’s not a 996 turbo car that has run close to that time with that little hp. And a lot of em actually go to the track. 11.1@131 is better times for the hp and he was 580whp or so. Another solid time guy ran 11.3@125 and he was around 520whp.
I know jays b5 was probably around 550whp to run his 10.8 and the RS4 is around 550whp to run the 11.1 (which I know has more in it). But I’d say it’s more common for a ~600whp car to run 10.8 in most newer platforms and with that power you’re well into the 130’s. Weight is a bitch, and cars are geared for fuel economy more than acceleration now.
Helarious. I actually still frequent an i-club offshoot forum, teh crowbarn. My exhaust is actually still alive on a subaru, and is in great shape believe it or not. An old friend has it. lol
I was actually this >< close to building an STi track car this year using a local engine builder, maxwell performance.
He definitely still has that rep. He also still has a bunch of blind followers. There are a lot of questions about his turbo kit even now. That’s part of the reason I’m more interested in seeing the results of that twin turbo kit.
Either way, for a street car, I wouldn’t really want more than 500 whp/wtq. (blasphemy, I know).
