Brake bleeding question

Hey guys, just recently I ordered new pads/rotors along with new rear caliper seal kits. So yesterday I started working on the rear brakes and I got the rear calipers removed, disassembled, and cleaned. I then put in the new seals/boots and reinstalled the positions which wasn’t bad other then reinstalling the positions. So I then get them both mounted back onto the car along with the new pads/rotors and hooked everything back up. I also purchased a motive bleeder for the job (thing works awesome!) so I filled it with about 1500ml of fluid and hooked it up and set pressure at 2 bars. I went from Front driver, front pass., rear driver and finally on the rear pass. side. I’m just about done and I go to check the bleeder to see its completely empty and that I’ve introduced air into the reservoir and master cylinder. >:(

So after I regathered myself, I started again from the beginning and got all the way back to the rear pass. side again and the air is never ending. I’ve ran well over 4L of fluid through the system trying to flush it but the air is relentless. I’m still currently flushing the system hoping that the air will stop, I’ve checked every other line for leaks… nothing. So my first question is how should I go about removing the air in the system? should i keep flushing? I’ve heard of Vag-coming the ABS mod. to rid the system of the air, is that what I’m going to have to do? Also am I absolutely going to need to use a Vag-com to fix this problem?? Huge thanks in advance guys!!

I have been there before. You can do a few things. Go old school and pump and bleed with a friend just working off the resivware or sometimes you can just leave the cap off the resivware and leave it over night. You can judge how much air is in the system by testing the brakes with the car in the air.

I prefer to bleed furthest to nearest. I also just use a hand vacuum pump to pull the fluid through. Make sure the motive bleeder isn’t your problem.

Thanks guys! I’ll leave the cap off tonight and try to bleed it the old school way tomorrow morning . What do you mean by that Rick? You think that there’s possibly crack or something that’s letting air in via the Bleeder? Also will I need a Vag-com to complete this job?

That should help. Gravity bleeding can’t hurt either. Leave the cap off and just barely leave the front passenger bleed screw open.

Hey guys, I let it gravity bleed for the past day and a half and I now just finished bleeding it old school with my dad. At all four corners there is completely no air coming out anymore! Now my next question is the clutch, because I got air in the system I should bleed this correct? I never started the car or pressed the clutch during this entire process, but I was reading that its recommended?? If so I found this for reference http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/234720-Clutch-Slave-Cylinder-Install-Tips-and-Bleeding-101-by-JHM , but how should I go about getting the car level if I"m doing this with floor jacks?
