Both my Audi’s, S4 with Brembo’s all around and my SQ5 have been subjected to ice, snow, salt and slush recently. The SQ5 just Monday in CT to the blizzard.(?) The SQ5 is a completely stock vehicle. Best cruising car I’ve ever had. Regardless, both are now in the relative warmth of NC. However, when first moving the car after parked at night, in a garage, the front brakes are emitting, both cars, a rubbing or very light friction like noise until the cars goes through several brake applications. Sound seems to be from front end on both vehicles. The rotors are clean, smooth and rust free. Any ideas? Thanks.
Do you know if they have semi mettalic pads? Mine does that first thing when its very mild out until I drive a bit, I think its the humidity causing rust on the semi mettalic pads. I wouldnt be too concerned, it could also be salt build up turning into that white fluffy stuff.
Thanks much. I’m running Carbotech brakes in the S4, stock in the SQ5.
Which carbotechs?
I’m running XP10 pads and dont have this issue
Probably just the way the pads perform until they’re within operating temperature.
Which carbotech pads do you have on the S4? 1521’s on all corners? The 1521’s are dead quiet on my car (have them on all 4 corners). Maybe you might consider putting some brake quiet on the backing plates of the pads.

The OEM pads on your SQ5 are probably the source of noise on that car. I’ve heard a friends 2014 S4 with stock brakes and it screeches a bit in the cold. You could consider some alternate pads on the SQ5, preferably a ceramic pad with low dusting (many like Akebono Euro Ceramic).
Same, 1521 pads are quiet on my car too. Great street pad.
I feel that crew hit the nail on the head…most cars when cold have a little squeal or the brakes sound feel…well, cold. My Q5 is shitty the first 10 minutes or until the brakes are up to operating temp. It’s always at slow speeds or when your light on the pedal.
Gents, thanks. Yes, they are Carbotech 1521s on the S4.
This. I have hawk ceramics and it does this.
