C6 S6 Intake port dividers

The C6 S6’s heads have port dividers, as you can see below.

(Ignore the plastic bit stuck in there…)

After taking the manifold off, it seems obvious that when the intake manifold flaps/tumblers are activated, they move to direct flow over one side of this divider (the outside). So it seems they have a purpose related to this.

But then, I’ve read of these being removed when any intake work is done (like JHM does for the 4.2)

Do you think these dividers would be any restriction to performance at the top end?

That is, do we keep them, or chuck them?

-P

Chuck them. The 2.0t has them as well and it’s common for them to ditch the as well. It’s more of a cold start thing but it ends up being more of a carbon magnet thing. It’s very common to remove them. Most say they get better performance. As long as your keeping your intake flaps there isn’t a need for the port spacers.

Thanks mate

I then wonder if the channels they sit in at the sides will cause any unwanted turbulence. Maybe I could just trim them down to fill up the gap - but certainly don’t want anything working it’s way loose and into the cylinder…

I don’t know how much you would need to block off that side part the rs4 guys don’t seem to and I don’t remember seeing any of the A4 guys doing it.

I think I removed them when I did the carbon cleaning on the S6 that I worked on. No negative affects. Don’t expect a noticeable boost in power.

Sorry to bring back from the dead…
I did the IM spacers and did not take these out. Now I have a weird rattle.
Do you think these port dividers could be a culprit.

It’s the same pitch but rattles faster with RPM
Very effing strange.
I’m going to start my own thread soon, if I don’t figure it out soon .

Russ its always a good idea to start a thread about your car. The rattle might be the intake flaps themselves. Most of the intakes tend to have broken flaps.

If you can put a video camera up front and try to grab the noise.

As for the dividers you can remove them but at this point Im thinking that might be more trouble.

Always fell free to bump threads here on AR. None of the guys have an issue with guys looking to get more information on old threads.
