C6 S6 - JHM overhaul

Mine was jumping when I first got it. May have been the tune (Unitronic stickers on car) or the way it was driven previously, but not as bad after a morning or so of driving in traffic. Will have retuned soon I guess, so will update with review.

That is a lot of K&N stickers you got that right.

With the JHM tune it will take a little bit to get used to is. There is 0 delay between when you push the throttle and when the throttle plate opens. Vs stock. Also you dont need to give it as much throttle as the TQ limits off idle have been removed. So you can pull away smooth but you will need to get used to there being no buffer and TQ restrictions and no delay when you push the throttle.

Scott, based on your signature you should pretty much have a 12 sec car? have you taken it to a track to verify? just curious.

I haven’t yet, too many other things going on lately, but I would agree that it’s probably right around the 12.9 mark, based on CV’s track times. Whatever the track time is, it’s certainly fast as f*** ;D Gotta be careful, when I mash the pedal at 50mph in the rain it can get a little squirrely! I’m still of the opinion that the overhaul and upgrades were worth every penny, VERY glad I did it!

It went from an average-performing luxury car with a cool V10 badge on the side, to an absolute monster. It’s a totally different car. 6 months after the upgrades, I still get a smile every time I redline it!

Scott, contact Dru see if you can go with him to the track this Wednesday. I bet your car is a 12.9 car. There have been several of us that have proven that this combination results in those times.

Once again, JHM steps in to save the day. They’ve once again proven that it’s almost crazy to take your car to anyone besides them for servicing. They know their shit with these cars like nobody else.

My car shut off on the freeway recently. Dead… dashboard warning lights lit up like a christmas tree, oil gushing onto the road underneath. Smoke coming from the hood. Not good. Had my car towed to JHM (how lucky am I that they’re only 50 miles away?) and they crammed me into their busy schedule to give it a look.

They are still buttoning the car back together, but barring any unforeseen problems during the test drive, they’ve found the issues and resolved them in a minimum of time and an absolutely fair price. Basically, what seems to have happened was there was a massive oil leak somewhere around the intake manifold (can’t recall where exactly, I’ll try to get the specifics on that later) which was spewing oil all over the place, causing the accessory belt to slip and ultimately break completely. They dug into the car, found the issues, presented me with several options to fix it, and got it done. They also suggested other maintenance items to address while the car was already apart (oil pressure sensor, oil separator, and a few other things) and only charged me the cost of those parts, no labor.

I’ll update again once my car is back in my hands, but right now I’m just really happy that JHM has once again stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball out of the park. If, someday, I ever trade in this car for a new one, I’d seriously consider another Audi if for no other reason than I’ve got an outstanding local(ish) shop that I can trust it to, which is something that can take a lifetime to find. I’m half tempted to tow my Passat down there next so that they can work their magic on that car too ;D

Sorry for the big plug, I swear they’re not paying me to say all this hahaha, just one really happy customer here!

Great update. Glad to hear you got this worked. out. JHM is top notchy well worth it. When it comes to performance and service.

Curious if this was the oil filter housing gasket o-ring…

The oil pressure sensor is in the front of the engine so it’s possible that let go maybe?

They did replace the oil filter housing o-ring, but also a lot of other things and I’m not sure which one was the primary culprit - they also replaced a crank seal, cam solenoid o-rings, valley pan gasket, and oil check valves. Probably all those were leaking to some extent, but I forget which one was causing the bulk of the leaking.

Lesson learned from all this - don’t ignore oil leaks. They only get worse as time goes on, the sooner it gets fixed the less expensive it will be.

Got the car back today, so far so good!

Here are JHM’s notes about the problems, and their resolutions:

[quote]oil leak coming from front of vehicle under the intake manifold. This caused the drive belt to slip and take out the front crankshaft seal. Major oil leak vehicle coated heavily in oil. Customer authorized the replacement front crank seal intake manifold reseal all gaskets and related o-rings where replaced. New Drive belt idler, belt and idlers were replaced replaced oil check valves and resealed valley pans installed intake manifold. replaced oil pressure sensor, installed new oil separator. Cleaned oil residue thoroughly topped off oil and coolant.

I guess the oil leak was so bad that they spent a significant portion of its time in their shop just cleaning up oil mess everywhere. I had no idea it was that bad or I’d have definitely addressed it sooner!
