Calling MEMBER AXEL. new JHM supercharger?

Did I read this right today. Is there yet another B6 JHM supercharged car on the road. I would love to hear more considering that if Im not mistaken he was part of the grupe that went to the track not too long ago.

Nope. Not a B6
B7 S4 Avant, MT6, Sprint Blue, 2.5" catless DPs, 2.5" x-pipe magnaflow catback, JHM stage IV clutch and lightweight flywheel, JHM intake spacers, JHM shifter trio, 19" OZ wheels

He picked up his car today after the install, but has a CEL so they’re still double checking a couple of things with the install.

Basically this car should be as fast as any other car out there in a straight line, other than the headers + SC cars (jaybquick and 91GL). Our track is nice and quick, at only 600 feet elevation and it’s nice and cold here right now, so hopefully he can break in that clutch in time for us to get to the strip.

He’s a B7 and I’m sure he’ll be along in a bit. For now, check here: http://www.audiforum.ca/showpost.php?p=172097&postcount=35

don’t forget Madison if the demons ever leave his car’s electrical system

^^ where is our 1st s/c hero? How’s his car?

He has this weird little bitty fault code that came up AFTER he installed headers. Nothing to do with the headers but more than likely one of:

a) a problem he incurred while pulling/reinstalling the engine, like a crushed wire or something simple
b) a problem with his o2 sensors. Of the 4 o2 sensors, you have to lengthen 2 of them when installing headers (I think you have to lengthen the front 2). He lengthened the wrong ones…then lengthened the right ones. It’s a theory that in lengthening the wrong ones, he has caused some kind of problem.

He already changed his MAF out (the fault mentions the MAF) to see if he had a bad MAF…wasn’t it. I’m betting on b) above, but we need someone to send him a set of working o2 sensors to try them. he could just buy new ones, but that’s like $500. Personally, if I were him, I’d just buy new/replace the ones I erroneously lengthened. What’s $150-200 if it solves the problem. I’d have done it weeks ago to rule it out. NOTHING could be more frustrating than having a 500 hp car that you can’t whomp on.

Thought I’d chime in here

So, as Saki mentioned, I got a CEL not too long after the sc was installed (on my drive home).
Went back the next day and it turns out it’s running lean in banks 1 and 2. I was also experiencing some hesitation and “sputtering” (albeit not all the time but often enough).

Shop did a smoke test just in case there were leaks but none were found. Fuel filter was replaced just to be safe but it hasn’t fixed the problem.

JHM has been notified and we’re waiting for a reply from Jay. So right now, we have no idea what’s causing this.

Will update more as I get more info.

o2 sensors seems to be the consensus guess for the culprit. Since your car is an 06, probably built late 05/early 6, it, and your 02 sensors are around 6 years old. Throwing a supercharger in the mix can overwhelm them and kill them.

Happened to me on my B7 S4 when I got 2.5 catless DPs installed. My B1S2 sensor just shit itself the day after I got the car home. CEL came on at lunch. I didn’t think that made sense…extra flow kills the sensor? really? People told me that it was indeed true and I really didn’t believe it. I figured the old one was cut in the installation of the DPs or something. But then again I drove 300 miles home and had no CEL.

Anyway, I replaced it, and it was indeed the problem. Pretty neat.

Jay @ JHM seems to think it might be tune related and has asked for logs before jumping on replacing the o2s. Tomorrow I’ll drop by the shop and we’ll grab some logs and send them out to JHM for review and possible tune tweak.

dude, you need a vagcom cable. I just ordered a new one that is B8 compatible. Want my other one for $20? Just need Windows XP to run it and you’re laughing.

If you clear the codes and the car performs better then it woud be good to still look at the 02’s

Congrats on the Supercharger. Thats a great add to the car.

Chinaecutool FTW! I had to reread that whole thread on how to get those cables working just the other day. Can’t beat a fully functioning VAG cable for $35.

HOLD THE PHONE

How are you getting a non vag cable to work with newer cars? I have a china cable and when it won’t connect to B7’s, C6’s, etc. I would love a cheap solution

Do you have the ebay cable or the chinese knock off of the rosstech cable (the knockoff is about $35 from ecutool.com)

The ecutool.com one is what Saki and I were talking about. I have it and it works on my B7. It’s a little bit of pain to get the software working, but well worth it. Here’s the thread: http://www.euroaddiction.net/forum/b6-b7-platform/1675-vag-com-ebay-cable-question.html

Well, saki and I captured some logs yesterday and they were sent to JHM this morning. Hoping JHM can use them to put together a new tune for me.
Saki says he didn’t really feel the bogging but I still do lol. Then again, I drive it every day, he only drove it for 10 minutes.
Just this morning, the light turned amber and I was close to crossing the intersection so I punched it just a bit in third and wham, felt the car hesitate and pause for a second before getting some power.

We’ll see what JHM has to say.

true, I also drove it like a bitch for the most part as it’s on break-in, and it’s not my car.

I tell you one thing, it was funny driving a JHM tuned car after driving a stock RS4 for a month. I forgot how much better the throttle feel is. I also have to say, even on a very conservative supercharger tune, with an extra passenger, being 100lbs heavier avant, and with 100 lbs of cargo in it, the car would KILL my RS4. It was pretty funny. Logged around 550-600 RPM second like it was nothing. Take that 250 lbs out of the car, and give it the full tune and it will be ridiculous how bad my Rs4 would get stomped.

I don’t know if I’m an anomaly b/c I’m a 05.5, but I had a ebay cable that worked just fine (version 6 or so iirc). I eventually upgraded to a legit vagcom cable b/c I thought I needed it for some issues with the headlights, but didn’t so I just gave my old one away when I sold my RNS-E.

And just general info for guys out there that may have issues:
The one thing with the knock-off cables is you have to make sure you ONLY are running the software version that the cable was designed for and provided with. I.E. you can’t run a knockoff cable that came with software 5.04 to run 5.07 or 5.02 (I don’t know what all versions they have, but you get what I’m saying). So don’t “update” when it tells you the software is out of date.

So I just spoke to JHM’s tuner for the last 90 minutes and it’s all good. He went through the logs and said it’s nothing to worry about (he gave me a full technical run-down which would be too long to write here and I would probably just butcher it anyway). He’s going to send me a new tune to push the fuel pump marginally harder (something like 12%) to clear the CEL. The number of failsafes in this tune is astonishing.

Can’t wait to finish breaking the clutch in. The car’s restless and just wants to go

Oh and saki, we need to schedule a weekend to make some videos (for ourselves and for JHM). I was thinking the 18th.
What do you think?

That sounds about right. It’s funny everyone was freaking out about the code, saying to park the car, but I knew if it was a legit code and a problem, JHM would have told you that on Monday.

As for vids, sure. What’s the 18th?

A Saturday.
