Can I lock/unlock my car without battery power?

I’m pulling my ECU tonight and I park in a parking garage. So I’m wondering if I’ll be able to lock/unlock the doors via the key in the driver’s door. Or just get all my valuables out of the car.

hmm. . . I THINK without a battery you can still manually lock or unlock your driver door (the only door with a physical key lock other than the trunk), but I’ve never really tried. I usually have my car in the garage and just leave it unlocked before I start the process.

So my reason would say if you locked the car, disconnected the battery, then manually unlocked the driver’s door you’d be okay.

There has to be. No way is the trunk the only solution, becaus the seats won’t go down from inside the trunk. I bet the key in the door will work

I’m definitely doing what you said Maddog and keeping my driver door unlocked and then trying to lock it manually after I disconnect it. I’ll let you guys know what happens later today.

JHM TUNE BABY!!!

Congrats man!!

I will be doing the same as soon as the good old tax return comes in!

Post up your thoughts when shes back up and running!

Also, how do you remove our factory ECU’s??

Yeah, the driver’s door can be locked/unlocked without the battery. The other 3 doors can’t.

lol…how about the key? Damn wish I was first to reply.

Little known fact, there is also a key hole on the underside of the trunk handle so you can get in there without power too.

They key option was what he was referring to. He was asking if it’ll still work without the battery.
The trunk option was also mentioned but not the preferred option.
Just clarifying

Thanks fellas.

I had no problem being able to lock/unlock the driver’s door with no power. I never know with these Oooodies…lol. I know its a dumbish question but I’ve learned not to try to apply my knowledge of domestics to this car.

^^^lol you can say that again. They’re weird fucking cars sometimes.

Give sparkplugs a try, and after you spend 30 minutes removing the fucking airbox to do so, you’ll be like WHY THE FUCK AM I BEING FORCED TO REMOVE THE AIRBOX TO CHANGE MY DAMN PLUGS???

I did. And I did say that…haha. That airbox is a big effing pain in the ass.

And on the ECU removal the damn wipers made me swear more than once.

Or removing the coolant tank to get to O2 and other harnesses. I’ve removed that a ton lately.

But even getting the Airbox back together to seal properly seems like a choir half the time.
