car button 2004 A8

looking at buying a 2004 A8 and the owner says the car button in the center console does not work, for the life of me I can’t find anything online to tell me what this does. does anyone here know?

Presumably it’s some sort of car information button

That’s exactly what it does on the newer models. It basically gives you information about the car. I believe our Q5 shows oil level and maintenance info. It also contains the TPMS and TPMS tire reset menu, but I can’t comment on any of the inforamtion held in that menu on a 2004.

Ah, my mom has an '04 A8.

But, yes it allows you to acess car information through the navigation. Also, if you hit the car button and then set-up it allows you to adjust the air suspension. So the fact that the car button does not work, probably means that you will not be able to adjust the suspension, among a few other functions it serves. Not sure how big of a deal it is to you.

If you would like to know more specifically what it does I can go check it out when my mom get’s home from work. They just live down the road.

You can just replace the buttons also, no big deal.
I just checked real quick and they are all over ebay for $250-$400

Usually people spill soda on the MMI buttons and then they stick and stop working. It is really easy on the A8s to remove that panel and then take the MMI button panel apart to clean it with electronics parts cleaner. Just have to take it so so that you don’t break the plastic.

Also remember that the early D3 A8s (2004-2006) were the old timing belt engine so make sure that they are up to date on maintenance.

I’ve never even hit the home button. My button could be broken and I’d never know.

oooh good call I didn’t even think it wasn’t chain. the car sits kinda jacked in the back and lower in the front complete opposite of the typical audi, maybe that’s because he cant adjust the suspension. I did read that u can lock the car button by pressing the left corner of it. it has 182000km on it. im gonna ask about the timing belt right now.

this is going to be my winter car so reliability is a must, nothing pisses me off more than working on a car in the cold and snow. I can bend on comfort stuff like he said the rear shade clip is broken and one of the memory modules doesn’t work, no big deal. ill get more info, supposed to look at it on Monday.

quadfreak, if its not too much to ask if u could get me some more info on all the functions that button does that would be awesome!!

For reliability maybe a 2004 a8 isn’t the best choice. How much you looking to spend? Get an awd Lexus is or something

guy wants 7k for it. I want to go as cheap as possible. that being said as long as I think its a good deal im happy but keeping under 10k is where I wanna be. i was looking at the jag xtypes as well theyre really cheap for what u get. and actually i never even thought of a lexus. older is 250 awds should be reasonable.

heres the link.

Nice looking car I can see why it’s tempting! But a 10yo audi will surely have its bits and pieces needing fixing esp in a v8.

Who owns it…a rapper?

They are great cars. The back seat is absolutely huge!! My mom has had hers for 5 years and besides oil changes and a set of tires the only thing to go wrong was the fuel pump about 2 months ago. I guess it depends on how well the previous owner took care of it

lol the 22s could be sold to recoup some of the cost it has a second set of 18s with winter tires. im having second thoughts now after talking to u guys. i bought a b6 a4 last year for winter and nothing but problems and an engine fire to end its life. i was also thinking a Volvo s60 would be great for winter.

i have always wanted an A8 though…

Funny you should say that. I think you meant to say the newer cheaper nodels

The A8 gets stuff… Then next Gen it’s on the a6 and then next Gen it’s on the a4 (and q5 etc)

That’s a 10 year old a8 that already had it. It’s not a new thing… It has just finally cascaded down.

I test drove an 06 S6 and couldn’t help but notice that the 2010 S4 interior is virtually identical.

I sent the guy an email asking about maintenance and so on. I really hate buying already modified cars even if its just suspension. you never know who did it and what they did. the stance is all wrong but cold just be because it cant be adjusted. ill go have a peek at it and see whats what.

is there anything else I should be looking for specifically? this will be my first A8.

Just buy another a8. There are plenty out there.

It’s 10 frigging years old. You don’t need to buy the one where there are some doubts.

agreed. this one looks much better for 900 more.

I would suggest a used A8 to anyone. Find one in decent shape first. But the amount of things that go wrong are extremely limited. They ars the older v8 motors so they will run forever. They are a solid car choose.
