Car totaled (08' RS4)

Anyone have experience? Getting a salvage bid. Insurance co. has valued it at ~$21k. Approx. 48k miles and salvage title (reconditioned when orig. purchased). Approx. $20k to fix. Doubt there’s much to do here but just curious.

Not sure, because of the salvage part…21k is still an insult. I would demand at least 30k

  1. FIGHT on valuation. An RS4 with 48k miles is worth $35,000 (2008) pretty comfortably.

  2. As far as buying it and fixing it, that sounds like a bad idea. If the write off is because you ran over a puddle and hydrolocked the engine, well damn I would say that’s maybe worth fixing. But if it’s because you rear ended a school bus and sheared the roof off and crushed the front end, I would get back to point one, fighting on valuation

You need to compile a list of evidence of RS4 sales prices to show value. I would even consider getting a lawyer if you’re too busy. Also go public on the big forums where people may have gone through this fight before with their insurer.

What’s the buy back on it out of curiosity and what was the damage?

Here’s the cheapest RS4 in recent ebay completed listings, for idea on auction valuations

101,000 miles on a 2007…and it sold for $25,000

Here’s a 2008 with 25,000 miles…$52,000

^^^that same car sold for $45,000 on an open private seller auction a month earlier. It was cleaned up, serviced and sold for $52 by that dealer.

Here’s an 07 with your mileage that sold for $40,000

So your insurance company is off their rocker. Basically they’re making a shit offer and hoping you say ‘OK, well them’s the breaks’.

Fight.

Or 3. Hire saki manus to fight for you lol

Thanks Saki. Great advice for sure. The buyback is just over $3k. Talking with folks local to me about partnering or selling outright on that piece. The car drives fine, but the front engine mounts (??) were damaged along with run of the mill front and rear bumper damage (orig. est. to repair…around $8k). Big dollars are apparently in tearing down to fix vs. being able to fix. Don’t believe there to be any engine damage but that is just a guess (I drove it there the next day). The title complicates this a bit as does my original purchase price (from what an attorney mentioned to me).

I would definitely buy it back to part out, if you get the option.

Bangoman here will give $1000 for the wheels and tires. There are loads of good parts. Headlights? Interior, rnse, etc. Not to mention intake manifold, heads… And maybe the whole engine

Hell if you don’t I might!

Hopefully you’re not hurt from the crash, and sorry to hear. It worries me something happening and the car getting ripped away. Now what the hell do I buy???

I want fun, awd , 4 doors, v8, car, not $100,000

Its basically the rs4 lol.

It sounds like you are saying the car already has a salvage title before this instance occurred? If so, that will definitely change the value of your car. It unfortunately won’t be worth the higher numbers that have already been thrown out, but I think would still be valued mid $20ks at least. Best of luck with it.

My thoughts exactly on replacing it; I used this for everything. Regarding title correct and I think also correct given counsel on that topic. Related, but They set Salvage value is at just over $3k.

Was intending to finish editing that!

Ah, I misunderstood. So the car was already a salvage title…and they valued replacement as around $21,000. That sounds pretty fair. I would still fight for more money. Worst case scenario, DEFINITELY buy it from them, then part it out. If it’s $3000 we can literally get you that from people posting in this thread alone, and you’ll have loads of parts left to sell. Just whether or not you have the room/patience etc.

Where are you from? I’ve recently been on the lookout for a totaled RS4 to rebuild. Any pictures?

Denver. Working on that now…

Somewhat ignorant as to how best to link to (or how to host) or post directly pictures?

Click on “Additional Options” to upload your photos using this forum. Otherwise use an image-hosting service like photobucket or imageshack. After uploading your photos to that service, copy the direct link and use the “insert image” button above the emoticons.

Wasn’t certain if the image approach was working so I just posted the link (though may have screwed that up as well).

Ya that link isn’t working. Just copy the link to your album and paste it into the text box. Don’t worry about the “insert hyperlink” button or anything. See if that works.

Is it Light Silver or Avus Silver?

If you buy it back and are interested in selling it place a classified ad. You already have interest in this thread and I myself along with some others may be interested if it is available as well.

Avus. No place to put this thing and time is a bit of a challenge for me with work. The car has been serviced at 5k intervals at McDonald Audi and 3ZERO3 here in Denver. They know it well. Bought it with ~13k on the clock. No stereo installed (pulled aftermarket gear) but have original speakers/HU but for sub.
