So I have a CEL all the time and every time we read the codes its cat efficiency below threshold bank 2. Well some one else said they thought cats last for a very long time and he thinks my o2 sensors may be the culprit. So is this a possibility or is it truly the cats?
both are possible. Can you post the code? Could be an o2 sensor. Could be a clogged cat.
How long have you owned the car? Did it just randomly happen, or did you just buy the car and this present came with it as a bonus?
Also, what year us your car? There was some discussion recently about VW/Audi’s 10y emissions warranty. I got a free cat off VW for a 2000 Jetta back in 2009.
It is likely your rear o2, bank 2 is drivers side. You should probably do both sides at the same time. Or you could just code them out with a tune… I cleared my codes by replacing the o2’s. Been over 4000 miles now and the code hasn’t come back.
The JHM tune will definitely help keeping CEL light off. It will also give your car some noticeable hp and torque.
I dare you to post this thread on the s5 section of audizine
its 10 years 80,000 miles. If you exceed the mileage they probably wont give you a free cat. Some states do however have a 100,000 mile mandatory cat replacement warranty.
It is the pre-cat.
The Federal warranty is 8 years or 80K miles. I replaced a lot of 3.0 cats at 79,xxx miles and just over seven years. Audi knew they were going to warranty a shit ton of cats since they had so many issues with ignition coils so they intentionally lowered the repair times to limit their losses from labor - damn cheap bean counters!
My Mom’s car had the same code and CEL so we replaced the cat before JHM came out with their tune. I can tell you now that if either catalytic converter fails than both are getting gutted and the tune ASAP.
Pay close attention to what You tell people about CATS.
Do not tell people to get a tune so that the CEL code goes away. Or use 02 spacers.
You just told someone to cover up a real problem!
CATS and 02 sensors go bad with age and if Your motor has other real problems.
I had the same CEL code after 1 year with new CATS.
So I had the CATS replaced and I cleared the codes then I had 3 02 sensors show they were bad after a mile
of driving with new CATS.
If Your looking for the least expensive way out get downpipes with no CATS and the JHM tune.
If JHM’s downpipes are done get theirs and their tune.
Also I recommend 4 brand new 02 sensors.
This seems to be an excepted way to fix the CEL code also.
