Checking in with a little update....

A software update that is.

After debating on whether to go directly to APR Stg 2 or not, I finally settled on Stg 1 and all I can say is Wow!!! I haven’t even driven it 50 miles for adaptation and damn, what a difference. The car pulls much harder from about 5K to red line and revs much faster as well. Even down low there seems to be more grunt – this all on Ca 91 craptane. I did get the 100 file as well and will try that as soon as I get a chance to get over to the local filler up station for some VP Racing Fuel. Curious to see what she’ll be like when the ECU settles in too.

I realize Stg 1 is a yawn for most of you hard core veterans on here, and I look forward to Stg 2 down the road, but this will do for now. The reason I didn’t go straight to Stg 2 was really financially based – just didn’t feel like biting of something north of $2K right now with labor. So Stg 1 it is and I plan to buy the pulley/belt and pulley removal kit and do the swap myself and save about $400 labor in the process.

Anyway, some of you may remember my post when I ran my buddies 6MT Revo v2 S4 and got clobbered. Well that race is going to happen again, but this time I’m expecting an entirely different outcome. Stay tuned!!

P.S. There’s also going to be a friendly little run vs a friend’s E92 M3. It’s got full exhaust and tune so it’ll be interesting to see how I stack up there. I think I’m gonna get my ass handed to me on that one though. ;D

Omg finally… some side by side racing action.

Good luck dawg.

Race the m3 from a dig and you shoukd have a lead before he passes you above 110 mph. If he is DCT it might be a little tougher. From a roll or high speeds he has an advantage, but you never know. A stock s4 is a very capable machine. Tuned is a handful.

Awesome man… Glad you are enjoying it… Race gas takes it to another level really… Looking forward to the race results… Revo tune is strong assuming it’s pre Stasis… Also, if/when you decide to go stage II don’t buy the tool… PM me and if you cover shipping and throw me a few bucks I’ll send you the pulley tool… It’s been all over the country already… lol

Got it. Yeah should be fun. He’s got a brand new motor covered fully by BMW (long story, but BMW FAIL for sure) and is waiting for break in to be done. We’ll hook up soon after that and I’ll throw up the vid.

Thanks man - very cool. ;D I’ll be in touch for sure when the time comes.

sounds like BMW win to me if he got a new motor…although sounds like it was either their fault, or he had to fight them to get it.

Well I view it as a win for my friend and a fail for BMW since it was a known defect that they tried to ignore in production. That’s what I understand of it anyway. I agree that they win points for taking care of it though and maintaining customer loyalty.

;D ;D ;D ;D

Glad to hear you like it. With APR’s updated Stage I, you should be running mid 12s - 4 to 5 tenths better than stock. So certainly nothing to yawn at.

I’d love to see the before and after race that’d be an interesting watch.

I’ll make a video of both for sure. Did you see the first one?

Sounds good to me. I think there’s a new 1/4 mile track opening up somewhere in the So cal area soon if not already. I’d love to get out there one day and run to see what happens and get on the data base as well.

Ok last night I had a chance to run my buddies 6MT Stasis/Revo mentioned above. Sorry no video for this one since it was dark and it would have sucked.

Honestly I thought the results would have been a little better for me, but here’s what happend.

First off his mods list so that’s clear…

Stasis Revo v2 software
Bbs ch 19 wheels
Strat intake
Awe exhaust

Me…
DSG
K&N drop in
Stock exhaust with xpipe and magnaflow mufflers
Apr stg 1 91 file

First run from a slow roll both cars in 1st, me in manual mode. I get the jump and think in have him but by 3rd he’s reeling me in and slowly passes me. If you guys recall, this happened the first time we raced when I was stock. Granted he didn’t pass me as quickly this time but the fact is he still caught me and passed me. >:(

Second run was from from a dig, I leave it in Auto/Sport Mode - I got a huge jump as expected, BUT he slipped his clutch and had to back off. In any case, had we been able to finish this run I think I would’ve been able to hold him off.

Third run from a roll, second gear - again I get the jump but he pulls away slowly up to about 100 and then I felt like I started to creep up on him, but we had to back off at that point.

I was running on my 91 file only. If I had some race gas and was on my 100 file, I think I would’ve been neck and neck with him or maybe even edged him out slightly.

I realize these cars have different gearing and his Strat intake and exhaust is probably helping him a bit too so that probably has something to do with it but damn that Revo tune is strong. :o

Comments?

That’s pretty much what I would have expected. Stasis’ V2 is pretty quick - and he’s running the Strat/RocEuro intake, which has proven very effective in the 1/4 mile.

^^^this^^^

Maybe it’s time to go back to the roc euro intake. I’m not a fan of loud supercharger whine and when I had it on before, I had no exhaust so it was obnoxious. Maybe now with the exhaust sounding the way it does I’ll give it another try.

everything is stacked against you in that race

  1. he has the better tune for making power - if you look at APR 91 parameters, then look at REVO/Stasis 91 parameters, you’d think you’re looking at a race gas vs. a pump gas tune. Not that REVO is using race like parameters, but APR 91 is suuuuuuper lame duck in comparison. So you’re giving up a good chunk there

  2. he has an open intake, and as discussed on this site in the past, an open intake helps the supercharger.

  3. he has 27 lb wheels while you have 33 lb wheels. That’s a pretty big difference

  4. manual cars are faster. This may not show up in the 1/4 mile where the DSG car has the advantage on the launch, and the advantage of 3 perfect shifts, but in a pull where there’s maybe 1 shift to do frm a roll, the lack of drivetrain loss on the manual car vs DSG (slight, but it’s there) is also helping him.

So all in all, you damn well should have lost!

p.s. I didn’t mention exhaust because exhaust mods on these cars are virtually worthless

Thanks man. Responses in line.

Good fun!

Congrats on enjoying the car!
