Codes and Carbon Clean!

My car’s CEL came on - codes were P2006 and P2007. Intake manifold runner stuck closed control bank 1 and 2. So I googled and read some stories of guys with that code who went to the dealer and got new intake manifolds on the dealers advice. Also read about some simple vacuum leaks.

So my guy pulled the manifold:

And there was the vacuum leak:

Fairly annoying that we’re at a couple of hours labour for a $5 part replacement but hey I said to him lets have a look at the carbon buildup now that it’s apart:

Things looked like you’d expect for 128,000km. So I said how much for a walnut blast while the intake is off? He waffled for a sec then said a hundred and fifty bucks. Done!

Really looking forward to seeing if I can feel a difference tomorrow…

$150 for a CC! better get some after pics

good luck

Get some pictures for sure. It makes sense for that amount of money due to the fact that all the work was already done.

Good to find it was something easy.

I had to replace all the vacuum lines for the side intake manifolds flaps and the drain line for the PCV valve because of those codes. The hard plastic lines crack and the soft 90 degree elbow tear over time.

So that’s obviously gone from awful to excellent…but I swear I can’t tell if the car is driving better or not.

I like that it’s done, peace of mind, etc - will my mileage be better now? I wasn’t sure if it was going to feel like I’ve gained 50hp or not feel like anything. Pretty much doesn’t feel like anything.

Looks good!

From what I have learned about carbon is that each has its specific case / situation. Some experience rough starts/idle, misfires, power loss to slight build up, however, others (like in your case) with a shit ton of build up go on with no symptoms. It must have to do with where exactly on the valves or in the chamber it is building up.

I bet others first firsthand experience (Jimmy, Justininc, CV) would probably know.

In my situation I felt like there was moderate build up before I had it cleaned. Car ran fine before, only the manifold was off during the S/C install (so i had no true before and after to compare it to). And eurocode sold me on the clean guaranteeing it will never build up again…I told them when it does im bringing it back for a free clean. ;D

Bruno thats not bad carbon build up at all. There wasnt much if any intrusion. There was build up on the top part of the walls and the valve area but nothing that would have caused misfires or power issues.

That is why carbon is one of those things. Some people really get bad bad carbon issues due to serious carbon build up. Others can drive for years and years and never have much of an issue or even see much carbon build up
