Cold air intake / aux rad delete

Can anyone help me out on the aux rad delete and what is required to do it? Fabricating ductwork to the stock air box is the easy part for me. (I originally planned a whole air box and tube to the throttle body, but keeping things simple and re using stock components is much easier) I’d like to see a picture with everything removed so I have a better idea of what kind of room I will have to work with, without having to rip my car apart.

thanks
Brian

I’m working with the same dilemma right now. I took a measurement of the grill opening, which was about 10.5" x 5.5" and I think I can make this fit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/kys-100-49010 which measures 5-5/8" x 11-1/8"

Then just need some 3" brake duct hose to run to the airbox inlet.

That will involve removal of the stock aux rad shroud, but it should require little modification to get good air flow into the box.

I have looked over the instructions for the oil cooler aux rad delete from JHM on the supercharger install sheet. But I was under the impression the RS4 had a separate oil cooler on a thermostat already. So my question is will the car suffer losing the rt side aux rad?

I plan to use my mold making skills and re make the stock duct, but funnel it down and have an extension tube up to the airbox. One piece. I might just jump into this this weekend.

I believe the oil cooler sits in front of the radiator with the PS cooler. From what I understand, the car does not need the aux rad on that side.

A good look at the shroud with the bumper off: http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?t=98322

Yes! Thank you that was what I needed. I hope to get into this one this weekend

Sweet, make sure you take pics. I wish I had molding skills like you

Also, it would be a good time to delete the SAI pump as you will have good access to it. +$50 on the JHM tune to add the SAI delete.

On the b6 S4 this is a common removal. You shouldnt see any issues unless you have lots of at a stop traffic. but doing intake spacers and removing piggies remove heat help. The use of thicker oil in the summer will also take out the bigger need for the Aux. So long story short. It hasnt been an issue for others in the past

I like this CAI idea and I’ve seen several members do this. However I have a problem with it being so open and low I guess. We had some crazy flash floods recently and it kind of makes me paranoid about doing this mod.

I don’t think theres any chance of water making it into the airbox. If that hose gets blocked with water the air will just flow through the snorkel.

Ask fasteddie about that theory. I believe he hydro locked his motor a year or so ago.

Eddie must have hit that water going… Fast 8)

Perhaps leaving the flap functional and in place with the hose would be a good compromise if you’re worried about having to drive through flood water. That way the hole is blocked at low rpm. Just make sure the airbox flap operating properly and don’t blow through deep water at over 5000rpm, lol.

Edit: looks like Eddie drove into water that went over his hood :frowning:
