so, this happened Thursday morning… I live about 5 houses down from the corner, this guy comes flying around doing 25-30 and nails me. Wasn’t even all the way in the street. Kills his tire, dent in the steel wheel, broken pittman arm, body damage. Pulling the bumper cover in a few, but it looks like the bumper cover and tail light are the only casualties. that LaminX is some stout stuff - all the lights still work. Crashbar might be tweaked a little, but I’m starting to doubt that since there’s no change to the gaps on the other side. Zero sheetmetal damage.
I’m at fault, sadly. The only discussion was exactly where the rear wheels were - if they were fully still in the driveway, this guy would’ve been ticketed all over the place. Decided to concede the point even though he admitted to speeding and looking at his phone for the address of his appointment that he was already late for. “He could’ve been snorting a line off the dashboard and doing 100mph, you’re still at fault as you have no right of way while backing” -Friendly Neighborhood Police Officer.
It’s a cheap fix for me - well under the $500 deductible and the guy seriously could use a break from the look of things. Something I could’ve gone without though.
I hear ya. Fortunately it Looks just like the bumper cover. Sorry to see this but I’ve seen much worse at 25 mph, lucky it was the rear and not the front honestly. Hope you can get it fixed soon, maybe do rs6 like bumper cover or c6.5 if your into that. Turn a nagaruve into a positive, right
heh. I just got a replacement - same same. I’m kinda glad I put the LaminX on when I did tho - it’s about the only thing holding the tail light together! All lights working, but the housing is fuct. Received the wrong replacement; A6? 6 bulbs instead of LED’s. Replacement for the replacement on the way. Sourcing a shop to shoot the paint. $2k check from insurance…not mad at all.
Got the bumper fixed; ordered a new cover for under $200 from auto parts wharehouse and had it painted locally for $150. Did you know there’s 5 different versions of Phantom Black Pearl?! Shop did a great job of matching it!
Car’s been running mostly problem free; misfires still on the 3 cylinders that I didn’t replace the injectors on; 4,8,9 and intermittent on 1. I bought 3 new to round out the 7 refurbs, but honestly I should’ve ordered a set of JHM refurbs - would’ve been cheaper even paying the core charge. In my defense, it wasn’t even listed on the website till after I bought all the refurbs…
New intake ordered, but OFC it’s on hold for another Audi revision. I’m not mad, but it’s hard to let someone else hold $2k for 2-3 months when I’m itching to get LW rotors and injectors.
All in all, this car is an absolute joy and complete overkill as a DD. With the JHM catback it makes glorious music, but only when I put my foot in it. Purrs like a kitten when not on the loudpedal. The tune; honestly I didn’t have enough time on the stock tune before fixing the issues to know what it’s like without it. Another S6 owner in town noted that the shifts were dramatically quicker and more decisive - I do remember thinking the shifting was “lazy” before the tune.
I’m developing a worse and worse steering vibration above 80mph - not sure if it’s a broken/loose hubcentric ring, bad CV, bad balance or what. Tires are due for rotation, so I’ll see what’s what then. I’ve also had a lug stud conversion that I’ve been sitting on since I bought the car, but I’ve been waiting on doing the brakes before installing it. I need some new caliper covers; mine are not daisy fresh but I’m not really interested in paying $130/ea for em; https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/front-anti-rattle-spring-priced-each/4f0615269a/
I found some without the logos for about half that, but bleh. I really want the LW rotors but the better part of $800 an axel is putting that on the back burner…
I’ve done almost 3000 miles mostly trouble free! I have to clear the misfires at least once a week, but no limp mode, and only cold starts really trigger the CEL for misfires honestly.
I can’t wait until this thing has a healthy intake and firing on all 10!
Great update. Sucks the ones you still have the issue on are the ones not done by JHM. Still good to hear the car is running better. Try putting injector cleaner in the tank every full up to see if it can’t help the last few injectors run better.
The cool thing about the JHM tune is that its already proven by several others so you can rest free knowing you picked up a good chunk of hp and acceleration. The last piece will come into effect when you are able to get the full working intake manifold.
