Corvette ZR1 = ....slow?

Wow…cars are getting really ridiculous.

Well the Ferrari has absurd gearing. 5.14:1 helps a TON along with a spaceship redline. I wonder what the 60-foots were and what the DA was to get that horrid 1.4 mile time. I think the fastest stock ZR1 is this guy: 10.740 @ 133.210 in the 1/4 mile

I’d still take the corvette. Half the price, and it will make it past 5000 miles and I can do the maintenance in my own driveway.

Ferarri + UR TT upgrade is my pick for 700 whp (only $59k) ;D

Holy cow see the launch in that video? They jack it to 5 or 6k revs and there’s no wheelspin when he goes…how many times can you do that before you leave your drivetrain all over the road??

I like the Aventador film - way better music and no crummy voice over

Anyhow it’s pretty tough to call, the argument of which of those cars is the “best.” You could argue that the Z06/ZR1 is the hands down winner on the basis that it’s priced as a 2 for 1. Or you could argue that the 458/fax machine are better since you’re not actually buying them to be the fastest car on the road. You’re buying them to be a celebrity and that comes at a price.

If your ONLY motivation was being the fastest car on the road then you’d never go near an exotic.

Tough to feel that ZR1 vs 458+MP412C is apples to apples.

Yeah…getting ridiculously good at getting the power to the ground.

Same sort of idea as the televison I guess… ie. for 50 years it was tube televisons. They didn’t change much in those 50 years. Then 7-8 years ago we went flat panel HD. Quick revolution, and the best you can do with a tube telly these days is find someone who will take it off your hands, for free.

With cars, automakers spent all those years improving engines but not overly improving acceleration times. Cars with 400 or 500 bhp have been around for ages. But not cars that do 0-60 in under 4 seconds. What gives? The revolution: somebody realized that converting potential energy into forward acceleration with minimal waste was the key, and now every car worth it’s salt has a traction control system and a launch control system, and lo and behold our 4 door saloons with 420bhp can rip a 3.7.

I’m pretty amazed by the post that Jalopnik just did about the new M5.

11.78@119mph ran a 1.8 60-ft. For a large RWD sedan that is nothing less than impressive.

It is 500 whp and around the same torque and running like it should. Not sure why everyone is shocked?
