CPO Questions + Potential issues?

Hi there all,

I figured I’ll post up here since I’m not sure what kind of exposure and replies I’ll get on say Audizine. Currently I’m trying to get my car into perfect working order, eliminating all the little issues that it has had or those that have recently developed.

Considering I’m still under CPO, I want to try and get the most done under warranty, minimizing visits, and potential future headaches. I currently have a few “issues” but I wanted to post here and see if some of them would be considered normal or even warrantied. Again, it’s CPO so one time fee and I want to get as many things fixed as I can.

Here is some current issues I’m facing:

  1. Both of my rear inner cv boots are leaking, or ripped. Hard to tell but I know there is a lot of the CV grease around my shocks and all.

  2. When I went in for alignment last month, the shop told me my valve cover gaskets were leaking. I’m assuming this is covered and I would simply notify them they are leaking and they should replace them?

  3. Serpentine/Acc Belt is showing wear. Now this I’m not sure about, will dealer cover it or is it a wear & tear item? I bought the car CPO about 7 months ago, so shouldn’t that have been replaced if anything?

  4. Driver side window rolls up SLOWER than the other 3. I know in my A4 all the windows were pretty much even. The back usually closed first and then the front 2 would be pretty even, but with this, the passenger rolls up quicker than the drivers?

  5. Back-seat squeaking over bumps and just plain driving

  6. Rattle-type noise around front passenger seat area. Seems that if I clip in the seat-belt it goes away.

  7. Cold-start chain rattle. I did an oil change about 400 miles ago or less and I noticed some significant chain rattle. It’s noticeable. I guess I should keep an eye on consistency of it happening?

  8. Is anybody else here experiencing a LOUD water-rush/running water type of noise coming from the fuel filter area? I know the filter was changed by a dealership at some point during my ownership but I’m not exactly sure what the hell this is. I’ll have to record a clip but if you have heard it, you’ll know what im talking about.
(I did the flapper mod on the airbox capping off the vacuum line but i dont think that would affect this in anyway?)

Anybody? Help? :-\

Being a Audi tech. I can tell you that different dealerships have different ways on looking at warranty work.

Its hard to pin point what dealer is going to do what.

1 This should be covered under most warranty policy arrangements. Also have them check for your control arms.
2 This falls into that. some cover some don’t. Depends on Dealership. Audi from what I know wont cover this.
3 Your CPO status might help you on this one. You mentioned that you got this 7 months ago. You might be able to use that argument when getting your gaskets looked at and your belt.
I would say that your getting belt slip and a Batt light on the dash when your under hard acceleration. Most dealer ships will replace the tensioner and in this include a belt.
4 This is a normal thing and I would think they would change the window regulator.
5 Hit or miss. Hard one to call
6 same here. They would have to investigate this
7 Knowing the deep issues with the timing components. Make sure to be more vocal about this.
8 hard to say. Might want to check your fuel filter. I can’t say I know what your referencing.

When you choose a dealer some have better relationships with Audi then others. Its going to be different at almost every dealership you go to.

If anyone figures out how to make the back seat stop squeaking please post the solution. I’ve crammed rags in between the seats. Oiled the seat back latch. Its driving me nuts since its the only non-normal noise in the cabin. ???

What has worked for is wrapping the pegs where the seats latch with some duct tape. If you fold you seats down you will see a black metal peg on either side where the seatbacks lock. Wrap that f’er in tape. That helps me. Bad news is if you fold your seats down regularly you will need to re-do periodically.

^Yea, it’s the “pegs” as JPO called them. But the attachment points where the rear seat pivots and latches in has a hard plastic coating. Sometimes that gets ripped off or worn down. Sometimes just applying WD40 or similar can help, other times a new buffer needs to be applied like electrical or duct tape for a quick fix.

Carlos Audi Tech - thanks for the reply.
From what you said, Audi wouldn’t valve cover gaskets? That seems kind of silly no?

I bought my car at one dealership in NJ but after the many bad experiences with them, I’m going to visit my local one, I’ll revise the list a bit and show it to them. Hopefully I’ll get lucky and they’ll change out the components.

About the fuel filter noise, I’ll try and take a video today and post it up.

Thanks!

Mine used to squeek, I lubed the hinge at the bottom and wrapped 200mph tape around the top posts and locked them, the squeak stopped. Cheap effort might work for you

I sprayed mine with 3m silicon lube (it’s like high end WD40) and it worked great. I like the tape idea too. I’ll do that once the lube wears out.

here is two clips of the noise. The video from phone makes it a bit louder but yea

Any ideas?

I was meaning to ask about the batt light on hard accelration cause it happens sometime. Will I need ti replace the tensioner along with the belt or can I gey away with just the belt

I have the same problem when I rip through 1st gear. We both have the LWCP and LWFW so I think the belt is just slipping from spinning too fast. Or maybe there is an issue with the JHM pulley being too slippery. Beem suggeted it could be my alternator locking up from a bad bearing but everything there checks out.

I JUST replaced my belt, tensioner, idler(all OEM) and put on the LWCP about 10k ago. I think it might be the belt wearing out faster for some reason. Mine already has a glazed look to it
If you find a solution let me know. Hopefully JHM will start selling the belt kit that uses the same belt as the s/c.

Ahhhh thats good info cause I almost ordered everthing to fix it

Hmmmm. I don’t remember mine sounding like that. I’ll have a listen tomorrow.

My back seat is now quiet! Duct tape on the top latch peg and oil in the lower hinge did the trick. I forgot how quiet the cabin was with that damn cricket living in my back seat for over a month.

EDIT

And if your warranty doesn’t cover VC gaskets I just did the driver side today at work(slow snow day). I’d reccomend you to DIY. Pretty simple, just needed to buy a 1/4 knuckle for the back bottom screw.

Let me know if you hear that noise, i don’t want to come out as an asshole demanding a problem get fixed if its not a problem. One guy at dealer told me its not an issue.
