Cracked Intake Manifold

Hey guys, so I was checking my oil a couple of days ago and noticed a bolt missing in my IM. Looked closer and found it cracked like this. This happened to anyone here before? Will try to find someone with a vagcom to do some logs and see if its affecting the car but so far seems to run ok other than an exhaust leak I have to fix…

That little post is just there to hold the fuel rail in place. It won’t cause any intake leaks or any problems with your car while it’s broken. Just be mindful when poking around in the engine bay because knocking the rail a bit could cause an injector or to disconnect or something but really I don’t see this as a point of risk for anything during normal driving

Somewhat related, does anyone know exactly what alloy these are? They are some sort of magnesium alloy right?

Brain being in “at work” mode, that looks like stress corrosion cracking. Perhaps residual stresses from a casting issue?

julin is this a early 04 intake. There have been a few examples of this over the years.

Yes they are a magnesium alloy. the early intakes were very porous and early on experienced cracks. The B7 had a little different alloy mix intake.

The good news is it only seems weak at the bridge.

YET LOL. The holidays are right around the corner.

I have the JHM intake manifold. It is worth the money. It really wakes up the upper rpm. The good news is the damage to your intake isnt something that should ever really cause any long term issues.
