Sure will be fun… I am looking forward to it… I think I’ll be close to the current RS4 times(AMD/JHM) with the new blower on 104, I think I’ll need a DSG tune to beat them but only time will tell… I’ll be out there trying come Oct./Nov. assuming the blower is out…

By Oct-Nov, nobody will care about the 11.3@126 times. Once JHM upgrades the RS4 fuelling (their 11.3 @ 126 was stock fuelling remember)…which will be soon…it will be pretty tough to touch, no matter what you put in the tank. They will be running their 91 tune of course.

Don’t doubt that at all but until it happens it’s speculation just like I am doing… At the end of the day I have no doubt the RS4 should be and will be faster afterall it’s got another 1.2L of displacement and a cetrifugal blowers are better for drag racing IMO… Just having fun speculating and talking smack…

On another note some idiot broad on a cellphone hit my wifes A4 and did significant damange… fortunately her and my 2 year old son are fine… But I doubt we will fix the car so she is probably going to need a new car… Trying to get her to take the S4 as a daily so I can order another toy… RS5 could be in the cards and of course I would add the blower asap, but unlikely as she really wants a Q5… I’m working her though… LOL!

They’re approaching the limit of stock fuelling and are actually holding the car back to go 11.3 @ 126…it’s pretty straightforward. Not really speculation at all

Give that car more fuel and it will go faster. The motor is nowhere near its limit. The blower is miles from it’s limit. It’s like flicking a switch to order up more power. That switch hasn’t been flicked yet (in the form of fuel pumps…injectors should be good to go for a while) but make no mistake there is tons more in it from JHM. AMD appear to have hit a wall. TTS appear to have hit a wall. JHM is working on lots of fun stuff. They’re already deep into a built motor program for the RS4 as well. Good times for 4.2 FSI folks!

Good to hear your family came through that accident…that’s always a terrifying call to get. I think the Q5 is great for a family hauler. So would the allroad.

p.s. there’s a 3.0T option on the Q5. Maybe you could be the fastest 3.0T in the world with a blower upgrade on that lol.

With respect to 3.0T vs. 4.2 I think the blower is the real factor. I don’t think the 3.0T is suffering at all vs. the APR 1320 kits. It’s not like the APR RS4s are going 11.8 @ 119 and the B8 S4 is going 12.5. Your pump gas time is pretty close to what APR went. Granted they did it on stock exhaust with cats, but still it’s not as big a gap as we thought is would be. Both engines push the blower to its limits and both engines come out pretty similarly performance wise. The B8 DSG guys have a definite edge ET wise, but when you line up APR RS4/S5 1320 cars on pump gas vs. APR B8 S4 full bolt on cars on pump gas, they’re seperated by MAYBE 2 tenths and 2 MPH.

Here’s the 1320 vs. 1320 comparison of the fastest 4.2 cars vs. the fastest 3.0T cars, all on pump gas. It’s very close really.

So the 1740 will only be pushing the B8 S4 to 11.3 territory, on 104? Is it really too far fetched to believe the new blower will net 11.0 or even high 10s on this platform? ???

I think 11.3 would be a solid time for the S4. That’s what the supercharged RS4s are running right now. Doubtful we’ll see 10s with just the 1740.

We’re just guessing really on what the 1740 will do. We don’t know

a) what kind of CFM it can move
b) how efficiently it can move it
c) how the APR tuning will work
d) how the APR cooling will work

There’s really too many unknowns. From the looks of it, you guys will be making a huge leap from the 1320, but you have to remember that with maxed out, race gas 1320 B8 S4 DSG guys with $10,000 modlists, you’re looking at 11.6 @ 117-119

Shaving 6-7 tenths at these levels is EXTREMELY hard. For perspective what you’re asking for (11.0 @ xxx) is basically matching a 997.2 turbo S…a car that has it’s engine over the rear wheels, and launches like crazy, cuts 2.6 second 0-60 MPH times…makes nearly 500 WHP/500 WTQ, and is 500+ lbs lighter than an S4.

It’s a really tall order!

Once you’re down here, shaving ET is really tough. Gaining MPH is a little easier, which means the car will be a rocket on the highway and put buslengths vs. a 1320 S4, however ET wise, they may only be seperated by 3-5 tenths (car lengths).

If I were a betting man, I would say the 1740 will propel the B8 S4 to:

11.6-11.7 @ 121 on pump gas
11.3 @ 125 on race gas

Who knows though…>DSG is fucking black magic. It can accompish crazy ET!

It will be more interesting to see what their strategy will be for getting the power down quickly and safely with the dsg.

It’s going to be a labyrinth of things to get into low 11’s (fueling, dsg software, cooling, etc. )

^^^especially if primotiempo’s wife takes the S4 as a daily driver…APR will lose a good beta tester candidate!

Thanks for that response saki. I understand that there are a crap-load of unknowns, but if the 1740 retails anywhere from $10k+ (like many speculate) then it’ll be very hard to justify spending that kind of money if it’ll only net .3 tenths on the 1/4 over a well modified Stg2 car. Yes, at highway speeds the car will haul ass, but that’s not where most want the gains. Again, we don’t have many details on the unit yet so this is all speculation…

^^^the problem is the car is so good out of the blocks…so gaining ET on a well sorted car is tough.

Look what it takes to go from the stock record of 12.6 to the modded record off 11.6

tune, pulley, lw parts, intake, exhaust, CPS, race gas

You’re at $6,000-10,000 depending on which car you look at (PT or Ryn or Bear). It only gets harder from there.

My B7 S4 went 12.9 while stock B6/7 S4s went 13.8. I picked up 9 tenths for like $3,000. Tune exhaust, lw rotors…done. On a B8 S4i it is very tough to make the same ET gain. The B7 RS4 is similar to the B8 with respect to gains from mods (even though people will tell you otherwise. Those people don’t run the largest Audi quarter mile list in the world lol). It’s tough to go from high 13s to 12s…and even tougher from 12s to the 11s…but that’s nothing like how tough it is to go from high 11s to low 11s…or better.

Look at the B5 S4 guys…they’re going from K04 kits that squeak them into the 11s @ 118 or so. Then they have some more succesful cars that get down to the mid 11s or even low 11s at @125 or so. To go from there to the 10s…even though they are ramming more and more and more power through the cars with $15,000 motor builds…they aren’t getting much better on ET…just tacking on the MPH. They’re trapping 130-140 and still barely looking at the 10s, some not making it even. ET at these levels is hella tough to improve. These are gross genearlizations…and most B5s don’t come anywhere these levels, but assumiung well sorted cars with great modlists, the B5 guys can see:

K04 OTS kits can go 11.8 @ 118 or so…making around 400 whp
bigger turbo guys are going 11.5 @ 125…making around 500 whp
really big turbos guys are going 11.0-11.3 @ 130 MPH…making 600 whp

Then you have the guys making well over 600 whp etc. but not going much quicker than the times set in 2007 . They’ll run mid-high 11s, and trap 130+ easily…but they qare fighting like fuck to make ET. Unfortunately many of the B5 guys have been fooled into believing the companies who can’t tune very well, and are satisfied with shitty ET and massive trap speeds. Basically a sign that a car has some tuning problems or the driver is a retard. Assuming someone can change gears and get it launched reasonably well, that excuse goes out the window. Now you have to look at the tuner.

Oddly enough, the biggest culprit, EPL, of tuning for the dyno or single gear pulls without paying much attention to how the car does through the gears, is trying to pull a fast one on the B8 S4 guys right now on Audizine. They’ll show you all the dynos and great trap speeds and single gear pulls you want. But they’re terrified of ET.

Glad they are alright, Ron. That’s never fun to hear.

If she is set on getting a Q5, why not go SQ5 or Q5 3.0T, Stage II or maybe even Stage III it, and have one crazy sleeper SUV? Wish the SQ5 came with DSG but unfortunately it doesn’t look like that’s the case.

I like our Q5 3.2… I would REALLY like it with a 3.0T. Overall, it’s a very solid car that tends to handle much more like an A4 than a Q7 (pretty obvious based on its underpinnings).

Sorry to hear PT, glad to hear they are ok.

Just tell your wife the B8 S4 is on the same platform as the Q5 and to suck it up lol. Or RS7, it’s a practical looking hatchback with lots of room in the back seat for child seats.

edit: and you can be APR’s leading man for the RS7 line instead!

Guys, Thanks for the kind words they are appreciated… Like Saki mentioned those are never fun calls to take… Fortunately, I got the call from my wife and not a police officer or doctor…

As for the replacement my wife is 100% non car person unfortunately… She really wants a SUV(it’s me pushing Q5!LOL) as it is easier with a child getting in and out and there is more room/storage… She likes the Q5, Tourag, Rav4, Escape, etc. Again, I am the one pushing the Audi but she wants to drive a few of them before she decides… The new Explorer is actually pretty sweet as well… We still need to see what happens with all the insurance stuff, I don’t think the car will be a total loss but probably 5-6Kish in damage… Bluebook trade value is 8-10K depending on condition… Should have a number from Geico today, which by the way they have been a PITA to deal with… Car runs and I’ll pound out the fender if needed so she can drive it in the short term especially if we end up ordering a Q5 or whatever…

Just realised…cracked the ECU means they can flash B8 but they still can’t flash B8.5 lol. Poor B8.5 guys…

We’re not port flashing the B8 right now, just the B8.5. We haven’t released the B8.5 software - we’ll be doing that shortly. We’re collecting final data, confirming, etc.

BTW, I counted 29 3.0 TFSI engine codes (14 variants, rest are power variants of the same engine) today and I’m sure I missed some. Nuts!

Check out the diesel Cherokee’s

They have gotten great reviews, and you get a sweet MB bluetec engine.
