Custom downpipes... Worth the price?

Considering having some custom downpipes developed for my car. Currently running stock downpipes and the Stasis catback (2.25"). I’d be willing to have a full system developed and sell the Stasis if needed. Would it be worthwhile to have some custom downpipes developed in regard to a power/torque increase? The pipes would be resonated so it’s not going to be cheap… I’ve had a heavy-drone exhaust and I think I have hearing damage so I would prefer something that sounds mean but not painful.

Thoughts?

What did CPT say about the potential power gains? If they can do it for a fairly reasonable price, I say go for it. Especially if you’re tiring of the sound of your current setup.

We discussed it a while back. Gist of the conversation was that I should look into what the S4’s are getting power-wise and my gains would be similar. Then, if I felt it was worthwhile, I could have a set developed. I’ve been looking to find exact numbers for JUST downpipes on the B8 S4 but I’ve come up with nothing. Looks like everything refers to the full exhaust.

CPT takes a while with these things because they are very meticulous (which is good) so I don’t want to leave my car with them, have a system developed, and only to decide that it wasn’t worth it.

Not sure if you ever heard my old exhaust; it was very mean but unfortunately droned way too much for a DD.

As you know, I have the milltek non-res (including downpipes), and I honestly don’t know whether it has netted any gains at the track. My first time running the 1/4 was stock + the milltek, and I believe my best pass was 13.001. So that’s pretty much in line with bone stock numbers.

Cool video - I had not heard your previous exhaust. Sounds pretty awesome, but I get the point about drone. I have it in my car as well, but it’s really only a factor if I’m in 6th or 7th - which rarely ever happens.

Millennium park?

Yep. I live in the area so I have to find interesting places to take videos of my car.

With all the power that the 3.0Ts are making shouldn’t the catback be a 2.5"?

Yes… It should. Stock S4 has 2.25" while the A6 stock is 2.0" so it is a bit of an improvement. However, I was coming from a custom 2.5" x-piped system. I was at the point that I needed a new exhaust urgently as I had a leak and the drone was driving me insane. Stasis was basically the only off-the-shelf system for the 3.0T so I went for it. I would have no problem selling it in the future and having a full system developed.

The v6 motors drone right at highway speed rpms unfortunately. The v8 cars drone at a more manageable 1200-1900 rpm
