CV Boots

Seems pretty straight forward. Never done boots on this car though.

Any tips or tricks or helpful ideas specific to the S6? Just curious. Driver and passenger side.

Thanks.

WOW those are toast. Several people say its better to just replace the entire shaft Vs doing just the boots.

That’s what I ended up doing. Not sure, think I found the whole axle for about $150. Jim Ellis Audi, factory parts at a decent (25%?) discount.

Oh wow. The cheapest shafts I’ve found genuine Audi right now is about 500 each.
That’s why I was just going to do the boots for 30 a pop. Not really worth it for that much.
I’ll have to do more looking and see if I can find some cheaper. Maybe then I could go that way.

$500 or so is what you should expect. I ended up getting mine rebuilt.

About how much did that run you?

RAXLES FTW all day.

Sadly with the S6 they are $350 (ea) w/ o the opportunity for the standard $100 core

One of my axles just blew a boot at the auto cross as well. I just replaced with one for $150 from wolf auto parts. - kickin the can down the road.

I just replaced the CV. Who knows how long that’s been open. Do the whole joint.

I think it set me back $400-500 including labor. It was a month after I got the car, lol. So much for the inspection I paid for. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just completed the inner passenger cv boot. $20 for the kit from Napa.

You will need to remove the heat shield, the top bolt is a bit tricky as the frame sits halfway in front of the access space.

As well, I replaced all the inner bolts and the axle nut.

I would say, that I know exactly when the boot got damaged and the car had 30km on it from that point, I felt more comfortable just replacing the boot vs the whole axle shaft.

Only 30km—you’re totally fine. Cleaning and repacking is all you needed.
