Datadatum's RS4 log

Thanks Justin. LOL - there are no mixed messages to folks that just love cars.

Until my wife reclaimed her parking spot, I had an absolute blast getting to choose which ride to take to work in the morning:

[And… here is where my Suby was relegated for over a year until I decided to sell it.]

lol just messing with you.

Oil changed, and sample sent to Blackstone. Always a satisfying feeling to finish an oil change.

Also… have a JHM catback on order (about 3 weeks ago). Looking forward to the upgrade.

I don’t always agree with Blackstone on there assessment but they do provide good information. I can’t remember the other name of the oil assessment company but someone sent out oil samples to 3 different company’s and they got 3 different opinions.

As for the cat back that really does wake up the excitement factor of the rs4. Excited to hear your review.

Getting excited!

Cool. Reso or nonres ?

I got the resonated version. Just sounded a bit better to me after listening to various recordings.

Yeah, it’s a much calmer sound. The non-res has a lot more violence to it.

Neither is too raspy or frappy. They’re very well designed for sound. Usually non-res is just a raspy frappy version of the res.

There’s definitely a considerable volume difference between stock and JHM resonated. It’s a good difference, but doesn’t make the car absurd. It’s also a beautiful sound so you and others will enjoy it. The non-resonated pushes it into that potentially obnoxious zone but you can control it with your driving style so that’s awesome.

Excellent - exactly what I am hoping for!

I always use this video as a great exhibition. The first scene is a yellow B7 S4 with full 2.5" catless JHM exhaust revving off followed by a B7 Rs4 with full JHM 2.75" catless exhaust (resonated like yours and mine)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuXShGfjT0c

The B7 S4 first off is MUCH louder. It overwhelms the microphone whereas the RS4 just sounds like a car revving. This is typical of the RS4 vs. S4 exhaust sound/volume comparisons.

I used to have a B7 S4 with full 2.5" JHM exhaust and it was indeed obnoxious territory when you wanted it to be (and sometimes when you didn’t).

My Rs4 has full 2.75" JHM with cats and resonated catback and it’s nowhere near that. This is borne out by the video.

I love my full JHM catless resonated exhaust, definitely feels like it’s sounding better everyday, but maybe that’s just me! lol

Also get quite a few thumbs up in regards to the sound! Was telling CV that I had a good couple highway pulls against a Porsche and when we stopped for gas he just couldn’t get over how amazing it sounded… Not to mention he was alittle stunned a 4door sedan was walking on him :smiling_imp::sweat_smile:

That video cracks me up “4.2’s in there second home” Hahahaha!

Good stuff!

The JHM package arrived a few days early. I’ll unpack and take pics this weekend.

I really think you will look at the car differently after you get the exhaust on.

It was packed to perfection, but whoever packed it up left me a little present. :frowning:

Will ask my shop to buff it before installing. It is on the outer, more visible edge of the tip. Bummer, as it appears pristine otherwise.

(Edit for non blurry pictures)

So, further investigation into the package reveals that it was most likely damaged in shipment. JHM is working with me closely regarding options.

Oil analysis…

Lovin the exhaust pictures. It’s always great to see something that good looking and knowing it’s going on your car.

Oil report looked good too

Thanks - the exhaust looks awesome. Can’t wait to get it on the car.

I reached out to my shop to see what they can do to repair the scuff on the exhaust tip. Hopefully have an update today.
