Datadatum's RS4 log

No B7 RS4 avants were allocated to North America.

That’s about right. That’s the reaction you look for when you spend the money to modify the car.

that’s hilarious

even with $1300 in shipping and taxes, it’s a better deal (and better designed exhaust) than anything else available. Some will crow about the MTM, but the MTM sounds like crap, and has no crossover, along with some bends that are sharper than they should be. Oh…and you’ll have a full JHM exhaust including downpipes with catalytic converters, and a catback…whereas the same money only gets you an MTM catback.

Two more exhaust related events today:

A neighbor followed me home, stopped in the street outside my driveway and jumped out of his Porsche Cayenne GTS.

I wasn’t sure WTF he was going to say.

“Hey! My name is Uwe - love your car. I had the window down just to listen to the sound.”

Turns out he also has a Carerra 4S, and wants it to sound like my RS4. Talked for a few minutes. Nice guy. Good taste.

The other one was the local palm tree trimmer. Kind of like an arboreal squeegee man - some entrepreneurial dude that drives around looking for palm trees with dead fronds, and offers to trim them (30 ft in the air) for a few bucks. We don’t use him anymore because he fell off a tall ladder in our yard, and scared the crap out of my wife. She thought he broke his back. He just had the wind knocked out, and my wife sent him packing.

Anyway…

He tells me he has a taller ladder now, and wants my wife to know that he hasn’t forgotten the $30 she paid him. He was willing to come back and take care of the fronds for free.

I smiled and said told him “Thanks, but no thanks.” Then he pointed at the RS4 (out in the driveway while I cleaned the garage), and told me he always stops and watches it go by because it is BEST sounding car.

Be careful in the tree, dude…

Funny stuff. The carrera 4s will always sound slightly crap. I have 2 friends who went with straight pipes and the soundes better than any other ones I’ve heard. But still nothing like a V8

Surprised he doesn’t understand that since he has a GTS…unless the new GTS is a turbo 6 or something? The old ones sounded mint.

Flat 6… V8… whatever… What Uwe wants, Uwe gets…

That’s mixing opinion with fact a little  V8 sounds aren’t the end all for everyone. I personally appreciate both. The RS4 more than other V8s. The Porsche flat 6 with their own sport exhaust is no joke. It’s not as nice as the V8 at low revs and rolling around town but at full chat they sing. Little race engines they are. Absolutely brilliant and would get higher points from me than the RS4’s V8 in those moments. But we’d be comparing a 9.5/10 to a 9.7 or so.

Drove a Cayman GTS and a C4 GTS yesterday at a track and they are pretty amazing cars sound included. But I was still very happy in my RS4 on the way back home, too. Was a little surprised that the 991 GTS didn’t feel particularly quicker than my Audi. It obviously is, and it’s not a marginal difference either, but seat of the pants the bigger engine in the RS4 does create a good impression.

Which kind of complicates things because I want to add a 911 at some point and I love the NA flat 6 but the only one which excites me is the GT3 which is silly money and silly around town. The 997.2 turbo is a monster by comparison but doesn’t sound nearly as good.

^first world problems lololol

Hah that’s awesome! Love reading stories like that.

Thanks guys. While I got the exhaust for myself, it is fun to hear that others appreciate it as well.

BTW - inching that fuel mileage back down towards the 12’s slowly but surely…

I think the firing order of the RS is pretty unique and is one of the reasons why it sounds different, in a good way to most people.

Lovin Lovin the stories that exhaust sounds great. The fuel mileage just says you have been having fun. You can get much better fuel mileage if you wanted to.

I wear my bad mileage like a badge of honor.

Euro - Is the RS4 and even or odd firing order?

Maybe you missed it but ‘Uwe’ said he wants his flat 6 911 c4s to sound exactly like datadatum’s RS4 with full JHM exhaust. Not ‘be similarly highly appreciate sounding blah blah’… He wanted that sound. He won’t get it.

I said it would sound nothing like the RS4 because it will sound nothing like an RS4. No ‘opinion’ about it…thats a fact.

Two MORE compliments on the exhaust today.

  1. As I got out of the parked car this morning, a landscaper yells out, “That’s what I’m talking about! That sound!”

  2. A colleague asks me how I like the Audi I’m driving. He says, “It sounds… (pause)… good (nods head). I mean REALLY GOOD. I would never expect that from a little Audi.”

You should start a exhaust complement thread. Or something to that effect. Lots of great stories. But if you start a thread you need exhaust clips. Lol
