Datadatum's RS4 log

Euro - you must clutch dump every standing start! Impressive!

Haha

That sounds a lot like what I would write if u did a review of this exhaust. It’s pretty much perfect for someone who wants power and more sound, without being a jerk.

That’s a great way to put it.

Any after pix. It would be good to see how a little elbow work cleaned up the marks.

Also I told you it would totally transform the car. It’s so cool to have a real exhaust on the car. The car feels more alive

I can take an after pic, but there is literally nothing to see! The scrape is just gone!

what is your exhaust setup now then?

Just noticed this

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/643608-JHM-2-75-quot-RS4-Downpipes?p=10612579#post10612579

I wondered the same thing when I saw that but I noticed that those downpipes are necked down. So I assumed that he got a non-necked down setup.

oh yeah that’s right. Good eye. Saves the cutting/welding etc.

Dd: good to read your report on the JHM exhaust. It matches my experience; put the full JHM exhaust (resonated) plus JHM tune on my car last summer. The combo transformed the car, especially at the altitude I live at. Driving in narrow mountain canyons, where there is, um, lots of sound feedback is awesome. Agree with you on drone around 2000 rpm, but only time I spend much time there is getting out of the neighborhood. My butt dyno says there is at least 30 added hp, based on back to back drives with another RS4 (the misano red one from JAX with the Milltek). They are very different cars now, and am wondering whether throwing the JHM tune on a car without JHM exhaust is worth it.
Also, thanks for the tip on Seth at Technical Dimensions. He’s done some transmission work on my kid’s S4.

Seth is great. Very pleased with his shop!

Ironically, it is the Misano RS4’s original owner who advised me to see Seth @ Technical Dimensions. When I went there to “interview” Seth, he was adjusting suspension settings on a Porsche track car owned by one of my co-workers (and was wearing a S4 baseball cap). Small world!

Regarding the JHM RS4 tune, I recommend it no matter what your exhaust setup is. I asked many questions to CV over PM, and talked to him a few times until I was satisfied. Reply back if you have specific questions.

a member here dyno’d his car and found a gain of around 35 whp so you were pretty close. Probably 40-45 hp or so. He gained 5 MPH of trap speed if that’s helpful.

$300 nail in sidewall. Bummer. Tire only 1/3 done. Will be replacing next week.

New tire ready…

It sucks replacing good tires due to little issues like that.

FYI - last tires I purchased from Tire Rack came with road hazard. Got a puncture in the bottom and they bought a new tire since it was practically new.

^ They just changed the roadhazard plan recently. The replacement tire I bought came with it.

Cool.

Some comments on the JHM exhaust (resonated, with cats)…

  1. Coworker: “Sounds like NASCAR in the parking lot when you pull in.”
  2. Teacher at elementary school: “Let me know when you want to sell that. (shaking head) Never hear a car sound that good.”
  3. Employee: “I can hear you pull into the parking lot from my desk!” [Note: my building has vibration isolation, very rare to hear anything outside.]
  4. Another coworker after a throttle-blip downshift: “That bark is incredible”
  5. Another coworker: “Surprisingly quiet inside. I thought it was going to be insanely loud based on how it sounds outside.”
  1. is the key one…you don’t realise the insanity outside because the interior is so well noise isolated

it truly is a symphony for the ears.

My wife’s OBXT ate a large screw in a rear tire, so I loaned her the RS4 to visit her brother today.

She got back and said, “That car is fast and fun. I felt like a superhero.”

The US never got Avants did they? People on the euro side who complain about exhaust drone issues tend to have an Avant which is much more sensitive with the large open cabin all the way to the rear bumper almost.

I have warmed considerably to the look and sound of JHM exhausts. Didn’t like the look of them at first but it gets a lot better if you leave them sooted up I think. Pity they’re such a major PITA to ship halfway across the world and pay taxes on.
