Datadatum's RS4 log

Sounds like 1-2-3-4-5 will change the car pretty considerably.

Carbon clean wise it doesn’t seem too bad on that ‘after’ log. It sucks when there’s not a close shop that’s good at it for a reasonable price.

Where are you located? There’s a couple of shops on the east coast that people like. I just can’t remember who you’re closest too.

I’m located in Jacksonville, Florida. We like to pretend it is a real city, but it is really just a random collection of hicks and out-of-towners.

Would be very interested if you knew of any nearby shops.

badblueRS4 is always talking about his shop in Atlanta who does it regularly.

A little far, but for $500 the savings might be worth consideration.

Yes, Atlanta is a little too far. The prior owner used to drive from Macon, GA to Audi of Atlanta for all service, including the last carbon clean.

Two RS4 owners are very happy with the cc performed by Audi of Jax, so I could always see if they price match a lower quote.

An AZ member in the Orlando area claims that “Full Throttle” cleaned his RS4 for only $400. He was very happy with the price and service. There is also the Audi dealer in Gainesville and Orlando that I can contact for a quote.

I’ll log more before deciding on the urgency of a cc.

Assume a shop rate of $90 an hour. $400 = 3.5 hrs pretty much

It’s a good 1.5 hrs minimum for removal and reinstall of the intake manifold. So they’re saying 2 hrs to clean? Maybe they’re just really fast. Maybe they’re using walnut shell media blast.

I think ELITE runs a special for like $650 which includes an oil change. Oil and filter is $70 in shop costs for parts alone. So they’re doing the clean for like $550 after you net out some time for the oil change.

Received my replacement plugs from Amazon yesterday.

I was tempted to get them from JHM, but I saved a few $ with Amazon prime, so oh well… JHM will get my business soon enough.

Also took the opportunity to get a new plug socket:

No more dropped plugs!

How does it hold the plug? I just thought they were rubberized inside thus wouldn’t damage the porcelain

It has the rubberized coating with a strong magnet to hold the plug in the socket. I haven’t tested it yet, and will report back when I do!

Some pics of the tool…

Decided to get a coil puller as well, after Mistro posted the zip-tie technique of removing troublesome coil packs on AZ.

Quote and picture courtesy of Mistro!

[quote]If you’re having trouble pulling out the coils by hand and you don’t have a pulling tool, you can use two zipties looped together like below. I hadn’t looped the bottom one in the pic, so I whipped up a crude diagram beside to explain lol.

Coil puller? You should already have two of them. On the end of each arm.

This attaches to those.

A few days ago, I added a ViseeO Tune2air WMA1000 to enable bluetooth streaming.

My car came with the iPod interface in the glove compartment. As everyone knows, the stock set-up blows. I added a Dension unit to make it a bit more user friendly, but it still blew.

So, I uninstalled the Dension (it is for sale if you want it), and added the Tune2air to the stock iPod glove box 30-pin connector.

Pros

  • bluetooth streaming!
  • sound is great, I can’t tell the difference between it and my SD cards
  • automatically connects to my phone’s internet radio and starts playing wherever it left off
  • maintains stock bluetooth telephone functionality
  • allows use of MFSW buttons and RNS-E controls

Cons

  • RNS-E doesn’t display track information. (The unit is compatible with AMI.)
  • blew another $89 on my car… but I hope to recoup some with selling the used Dension

For me I need the songs on the screen. I can’t listen to radio. Too annoying. I like my music better than some corporate slave’s music (which in canada must be 80 Canadian content)

Good for you Internet radio guys.

Plugs replaced!

Perhaps my imagination, but it sounded better on startup. Smoother… or silkier. Logs to come later. Will be interesting to see what the data says.

By the way, the coil puller was $ well spent. They had never been pulled, and the tool made it a piece of cake. The plug socket worked as expected as well. The whole thing took about an hour.

Then it took me another 20 minutes to get the damn screw I dropped to reattach the plastic engine bay cover. Had to jack up the car to get to the under tray and fish it out.

Coil puller, that’s nonsense…lol you guys must have feeble women fingers.

That spark plug tool is pretty cool though

x2, never understood the trouble people have with them

LOL - This must be the part of the show when people show off their muscles!

I was having trouble getting purchase on the coils, and have no shame in using a tool that made it very easy.
