Last two weeks, 2hr trips to Savannah (anniversary) and SeaWorld (birthday). RS4 chews up these short road trips and spits them out.
I’ll take another trip in a few weeks up to DC. A little over 700 miles each way. Looking forward to that.

Blackstone Oil Report is in…
[quote]No problems to report in this first sample from your Audi RS4. Metals are reading pretty close to
universal averages, which is a very good indication that the engine is running smoothly with no mechanical
problems in the works. Those universal averages show normal wear after about 5,000 miles on the oil for
this engine type. Indeed, some of your metals are a little above average after a shorter interval, but that’s
could just be a result of the use this engine sees. We’re not too worried. A TBN of 7.1 shows lots of active
additive left. Nice!

RS4 ripped off nearly 800 miles at 90+mph without breaking a sweat. Averaged 20.2 mpg on one tank (my record by far).
That’s a lot of impressiveness. 90+ for 800 miles. Where did you go, where you were able to drive that fast for that long? Sounds like where ever it was you got there quick.
Wherever you went, I’m jealous.
Drove up the east coast, mostly on 95. I was lucky to hit no construction or accidents.
Near Richmond, 95 Southbound was dark for a mile, then 10 emergency vehicles, and then 4 miles of parking lot. Then dark again for a mile, then a police detour at the next exit, followed by over 10 miles of parking lot. CRAZY bad.
Heading back South today through the mountains, stopping in Charlotte. First agenda item this AM is the Smithsonian Air and Space Annex in Dulles. Going to see a SR71!
Man you got there fast.
A word of advice though, going faster than 80 mph or 20 mph over the speed limit is reckless driving in Virginia. There was a writer from Jalopnik writer that got jail time for going 93 mph in a 55 mph zone. http://jalopnik.com/never-speed-in-virginia-lessons-from-my-three-days-in-1613604053
Took two days going home. Went out to Dulles to the Air and Space Annex (pics to come), south on 81, and overnight at Charlotte.
Back home today. Some events of note:
A military container truck had the side container door swing open and dump 50,000 sheets of paper in the air. I was about 20 cars behind and saw an explosion of white that went ~50 ft up in the air. As the traffic drove through, it would swirl up into the air. Never seen anything like it. My wife tried to grab a pic, but was too late.
Tornado watch outside of Savannah. Temp went from 98 to 73°F in a few minutes. Sky went dark green, and I could see the clouds rolling over horizontally. Massive wind started dumping tree branches and 1 billion pine cones onto the interstate. My wife said, “Speed up!!!” but then the rain kicked in so hard that I couldn’t see more than 50 ft. The RS4 got rocked side to side, and a flying rock cracked my windshield.
Must have seen 20 lightening bolts in 2 minutes. The high wind settled down, lightening stopped, and then it was just 15 minutes of interstate-flooding rain. Cars, trucks, semis pulled over with hazards on… Me and a Corvette ZR1 creeping along at ~30mph until things cleared up.
Wow. Shocking. Especially given that I was NOT the fastest car on the road. Between Richmond and DC, it was like fucking Formula 1. 4 lanes of passing, nobody going less than 80mph.
The article was about a little podunk town near Shenandoah. I suppose those little townships can pass out hard sentences. During my trip in VA, I stayed on the Interstates, and saw zero police presence my entire time on them. Lucky for me. I can’t begin to imagine a trip to the slammer for 85mph. :
Ran an experiment yesterday with my fuel gauge.
I filled up about 315 miles outside of Charlotte, NC. I kept the car at a steady pace, and tracked the location of the fuel needle every 10 miles. I ended up making it all the way to Charlotte - driving my longest distance ever on a tank of gas (315 miles), and had my second best mileage ever (19.5mpg). Also drained the tank, with my second largest fillup ever… 16.138 gallons. :o
Here is how linear the gauge read during my drive. Note that I only had one stop between fillups (at 220 miles, child bathroom break), and the fuel indicator warning came on at 290 miles.

Hahaha you’re such a math geek like me
If you ride the instantaneous fuel consumption readout you might be able to get even better then that.
Yes, a few ways to skin the cat.
I was primarily interested if the fuel gauge was linear or not. My gut said that it was non-linear, falling faster at the lower 1/2 tank. But that was with my usual routine of city driving, and lots of short trips. So I decided to log the fuel gauge on a long trip to see if my hypothesis was correct.
During that trip, I averaged about 20mpg. Every dot represents about 1/2 gallon of fuel consumption.
You can see that the first 2.5 gallons of fuel don’t even budge the needle, but then it is fairly linear after that. The fuel capacity is rated at 16.6 gallons (63 liters), so I only had 1/2 gallon left when I shut down my experiment.
I do my own taxes.
You should have asked I would have told you that. When you look at the gas tank the upper part of the tank flares out and then depending on how far you fill if the filler area can hold extra amout as well. After this you have discovered and tested a fun RS4 fact.
LOL - that makes sense. It was too easy to test for myself, and added a little fun to the monotony of a long drive.
The last leg of my trip, after the tornado…

Have you ever replaced that sensor? Usually that code was caused by a bad O2 sensor.
Yep, did that after I logged it.
Original sensor. Do you recommend replacing one at a time as they go bad?
Note that the MIL occurred after an extended period at the indicated speed. I suppose I’ll find out if it comes back in my routine driving (100% city)…
Put on an h pipe just to try it out. Got it for $126"5, figured why not.
Turns out my passenger side pipe was ovaled by some kind of clamp. Right where I made the cut to connect the h pipe.
Had to take the car to an exhaust shop to have them round out my pipe. PITA
Looks like it was a factory thing.
