Datadatum's RS4 log

It’s funny I remember CV telling me that when he was in the b5 scene years ago, people would ask him for help, and he would ask them to do some things to help him understand the situation and get a feel for what the car needs, and he’d rarely hear back with the information he requested…just more whining.

One of the first guys to give CV EXACTLY what he was asking for thus enabling him to help the guy out was Jason @ JHM. I think we know how that went. And if you don’t know, Jason’s b5 went 11.1 on k04 turbos.

Central HVAC motor for directing air flow replaced. Did not meet $250 deductible.

A/C expansion valve had “debris” in it, unknown source, and not from part failure. Not covered.

Front inner fender liner had hole rubbed in it on engine side of wheel-well. Unknown cause. Not covered.

So far this Fidelity warranty (AAA rated by BBB, best in class?) leaves me unsatisfied.

OT: When your dealer tells you “xyz” is "not covered, don’t accept it. Be prepared, pull out the brochure and paperwork that indicates what’s covered under your plan. My service rep was a little taken back when I said, “I don’t accept that this is not covered. Someone either made a mistake or is being lazy. Here, let’s review the items covered under my plan.” Then, magically, those items in question were covered. It’s worth the conversation, at least it was for me.

To echo Saki and you, the more accurate info you give CV the better. He has helped me numerous times in the past and it saved me a lot of time, money and energy. Fantastic resource for the platform.

I heard if you call him and press your phone against the car it will tell him exactly what is wrong…he is like the Audi whisperer or something.

Euro, I have heard that CV can also open the doors if you lock your keys in the car too. Just call him, then hold your phone to the door, and let the magic happen.

I have not posted in this thread yet. Just double checked through all six pages. No need to rain on your parade with my less than one post a day average.

It’s all good, JB. That was posted in good fun.

It wasn’t in this thread, but you’ve made your feelings about extended warranties quite clear.

Quick note: RS4 does not feel nice on cobblestone streets. That is all.

Thanks guys I really appreciate your kindness, in a related story. Audi has been using my urine for racing coolant for about 6 years now. Was that too much? :stuck_out_tongue:

Better to drive a RS4 on cobblestone than a yugo with bad suspension. Where in the civilized world has cobblestone streets that you would drive on?

You must drink a lot; Audi has lots of different race cars.

In all seriousity, thanks for all your knowledge sharing. You have helped me and many others. Many, many thanks!!

One of my known fees is, one gallon of milk per project. ;D

I think its great that we have the website here that is more friends helping friends. It’s easy to help when you don’t have people looking to pump their chests and post for the sake of posting. I know I truly value the support I get from you guys, that’s in part what makes all the late nights and long weekends so rewarding.

They use excellence as coolant? Interesting!

50:50 or straight CV piss?

How much per liter?

I’d estimate CV’s urine output to be about 1200ml per day, depending on how much he drinks. So that’s 1200 x 365 x 6 = 2628000 ml. Add 2x1200ml for leap years = 2630400 mL = 2630 L of piss in 6 years.

Coolant capacity in the RS4 4.2 FSI = 11.5L
2360/11.5 = 226

i.e. CV’s piss should get us 226 refills of an RS4.
More if it’s a 50:50 blend. Gonna have to try that at Milan or Cayuga.

Lemme know if my maths is off.

Yeah they are the scum of the earth. I am glad that I got to stick it to them whenever I could.

Just wondering, you said the expansion valve had debris in it. Are they referring to the restrictor tube/fixed orifice tube or the receiver drier?

Savannah, GA.

One of the most “civilized” cities in the US.

I think he said restrictor tube. I’ll post up the technicians notes when I get home.

Tech notes from recent dealer visit…

Issue #1:
Low on refrigerant, slight buildup on orifice tube.
Performed Test drive, verified A/C starts to blow warm after prolonged idling or driving.
Evacuated system, removed 250 grams of refrigerant from vehicle.
Removed restrictor in high side line, found trace amounts of debris in screen.
Replaced restrictor with filter element.
Place vacuum on system, passed leak test.
Filled refrigerant to 440 grams per factory specifications with 8ml oil with die.
Performed verification test drive, all vents stayed cold with A/C set to low.
Issue 2:
Center vent flap motor chattering, internal damage.
Verified clicking noise from behind dash & navigation screen.
Performed GFF, found fault for central falp motor, stuck or short to B+
Removed right instrument panel cover, removed glove box assembly.
Cleared fault, performed basic settings.
Upon inspection, found motor for center vent flap suck and clicking, due to internal damage to mechanism.
Removed motor, checked flap linkages for sticking. All linkages work as designed.
Replaced center vent flap motor, cleared faults, performed basic settings.
Vehicle working as designed. Reinstalled glove box and right instrument panel cover.

Finally a good dealer results story?

Yes - results are spot on. No complaints there.

(Also enjoyed chatting with the techs and service managers who came out to drool on the car.)

Only complaint is that had I known the extended warranty would not apply, I would have had my indy do the work…
