Decided to take the B8.5 to the strip tonight...

So I had some free time tonight and decided to hit the strip. I believe this is the first B8.5 6MT to hit the track if I’m correct. I’m still on the original BETA flash from GIAC as they haven’t released the 6MT file officially as of yet… The car for some reason only makes 14.5psi compared to my old car which made 18.1psi, so it’s def not as fast as my B8 was…

Conditions were far from ideal and a combination of me fearing to grenade my stock clutch and the extra sticky track I had two horrible 60’ times… One was a 2.013 and the other 1.926… DA when I checked before my first run was +1710 and temperature was at 81 degrees… Car was on Shell 93 and about a half a tank… I didn’t take anything out of the car and my new 19’s weight about 4lbs more each than my stock wheels did (57.1lbs). Car with me in it was 4133lbs and I’m 240lbs…

Mods:
GIAC Stage 2 BETA V1
AWE Non-Resonated Exhaust
Roc-Euro Intake
Custom Heat Exchanger with Reservoir

First pass was a 12.632@112.69mph with a 2.013 60’ and the second/final pass was a 12.573@112.52 with a 1.926 60’…

I knew that if I came out harder instead of such a low RPM and a less sticky surface with my 18’s on I might have been able to cut a 12.3-12.4 but that wasn’t the case…

Cool thing is that this car is heavier than my last one, the wheels were heavier, it’s on a stock clutch, stock cats and ran in a much worse DA than my last car but still was able to achieve a 12.5@112.5 which I’m pretty happy with in this heat…

Anyways these are far from my best runs ever, but IMO its important to post regardless of good/bad as it could only help/improve the platform…

Also I’m getting a slight shift delay, hard to explain but it almost feels like a lose power for a millisecond on quick shifts… I’m gonna email Austin about it tomorrow and see if they can fix that problem in the production software…

Pete, nice job considering everything… Looked like the rpms dipped after you launched… With a better 60ft time even in that shitty da you could have gone 12.3 12.4. Thanks for sharing!

All things considered that’s a pretty good start. Congrats!

the shift delay is a software thing, the apr stage 2 cars were having this issue, the last software update corrected that issue

What’s the deal with a shift delay on a manual? ECU cutting power to protect the clutch or something?

^^^could be traction control or slight clutch slip

I’m curious by this comment:

"The car for some reason only makes 14.5psi compared to my old car which made 18.1psi, so it’s def not as fast as my B8 was… "

Boost is a measure of a restriction, not a measure of performance.

Your fastest ET with a full modlist in subzero DA on the old car was 12.1 @ 113. Last night in shitty DA and with a mediocre launch you went 12.5 and trapped 112.5. I’d say the cars are nearly identically ‘fast’ if we factor in 3000 feet of density (or about 9% of your power). With a good launch getting you down near 1.82-1.83, you’d be looking at 12.40 @ 112. With better DA probably 12.25 @ 113-114.

Thanks bro, that’s what I was hoping for. I’d be stoked with a 12.3

Thanks man.

My old car had it then they fixed it. This car it’s a little different though… It cuts timing a little and boost in logs and then the car slows down just a slight bit and comes back if I stay in it… The old car and the apr cars would just completely fall on their face.

Yeah it’s like a transmission saver of some sort built into the ecu and it makes shifting fast so tricky.

I also trapped 115.8 in my old car on pump also. The other car was also faster 60-130 so I’m guessing that 3psi is the culprit but I could be wrong…

I don’t think it’s clutch slip bc sometimes the delay is worse than others and we have caught it on some logs once or twice… I honestly miss the B6/B7 trans that loved being slammed like an animal lol…

It was only my 3rd and 4th launch with the car but on the street at the same RPM it came out so much harder… I’m guessing that track prep really was affecting the car.

Let’s see if I’ve got this right… The B8.5 DSG has different gearing to the B8 DSG. Is the gearing the same for the 6MT?

The B8.5 6MT actually has slightly longer gearing than my B8…

At the limiter my B8.5 hits 74 in 2nd, 102 in 3rd and 139 in 4th…

At the limiter my B8 hit 69 in 2nd, 98 in 3rd and 131 in 4th…

Auditude, do your logs indicate any bleeding of boost at higher RPMs? To me, lower boost with the same redline means that either the crank pulley diameter changed for B8.5, the GIAC blower pulley diameter changed, or there was some bleeding. I guess it’s possible that the supercharger is suddenly unable to deal with the heat associated with 16-18 psi of boost, but that seems far out given that it’s the same unit with basically the same cooling system.

I wonder what gives. I got APR stage II on my B8.5 DSG last week and I’ll try to do some logging and maybe hit the strip soon. My numbers will of course be different because I can’t shift past 63-6400 rpm.

^^^what happens in the nightmares?

you sure? I thought richi was bouncing into the limit at 128 on the pbox (indicated on speedo is irrelevant)

were you running bigger diameter tires than him or something?

Pulley is off my old AWE Stage 2 B8 S4 and I measured the crank pulley already and it’s physically identical…

Cooling system on my car is different than my last car (I had APR CPS, now I have a custom cooler) however this car actually runs cooler…

In the logs they are requesting the same boost as my last car, HOWEVER my last car made 18psi with 3-4% bleed off and this car makes 14.7 with 0% bypass… Makes no sense to me…

I ran an APR Stage 2 B8.5 S5 DSG convertible and he had just an APR intake. I pulled on him pretty hard and his P3 gauge reads 14.4psi max… Whereas Tsivas is APR Stage 2 with the same bolt ons as me and he isn’t as good as a driver as I am and he still pulls on me… 11.9 60-130 vs. 11.0 for him (5 min apart).

both tsivas and pete are able to break 130 in 4th. no matter how many times i tried i was never able to crack it in 4th gear

That was before his newer revision file, we can all hit 131 in 4th now on stock 19’s.

Richi, I don’t believe you’ve tried to on V2.2. I know Tsivas and the other guys maxed out at 129 before and now they all hit 130 on the Pbox with V2.2
