Devil's Wagon

Would the devil drive a wagon? Not sure, but the red is nice 8)

I know ya’ll like numbers… and I don’t really have those. But i have some shiny new pictures. So I thought I’d start a good build thread here.

Love the wagon, nice pick on the performance stuff. I wouldn’t worry about numbers, at this point everyone knows the formula. Now it’s about how cool the car is with the performance and play parts. You will really notice the car stiffen up when you add the mounts.

I don’t think most will understand the wagon till they own one.

Thanks Count! I know i’m itching for more power, but first suspension mods and maybe one of those ttrs steering wheels.
Electric cutouts off the back make this thing scream so good.

Love the red!

Looks a lot like my red avant, except way cleaner!

You actually have great mods and a great looking avant.

Looks great and love the carrier on top.

Looks great! Now you just need to colour match the roofbox.

This is a B8 but you get the idea

Did it on mine (blue) and I think it looks way better.

Great shots!
I’m glad you decided to keep and build your Avant. We need more of these! So I’m taking it you’re in for the long haul with this build and scrambled RS4 route?

Gorgeous and glad to have another Avant in the mix…

I think I mentioned same thing before. ^this it’ll tie in your look, and will absolutely look insanely good on Brilliant Red.

Dangit Axle and Mr Wong, those pictures are making me consider painting it now. That would look pretty sick.

I did decide to drop the rs4 idea, I just can’t get over the wagon body line and utility of it. Besides , it stands out a bit more.

Should have the mounts and trip pkg installed today, can’t wait!

I know what you mean. The RS4 is a fine car and I had a tough decision to make when I went with the Avant. I really wanted an RS4 but since I could only get one car, the Avant won out.

By the way, how much more would an RS4 have been purchase wise?

Looking at about 10g difference if I sold the girl for top dollar. It’s the high mile one in Denver.
That being said , brakes and a carbon cleaning would be on the list right after I bought it. I know it was driven hard, maintained well too though. Tough decision, but after seeing a few rs4’s in town I feel like I wouldn’t be satisfied with the sedan form.

Besides if I keep it, there’s more chance of a built motor finding it’s way inside.

That being said. I am pushing a considerable amount of oil out with hard highway driving. 150-180kph steady, hard acceleration when passing. I topped off in Calgary and put a litre in back in Saskatoon. 619km.
Filling with Motul 5w30. Oil is all over the back ass after the trip. Enough to wipe with a finger and see on the hatch.
What should I be looking at first? How bad is that for my situation?

I’ll let the pros answer but regarding the $10k + misc difference, you can get a JHM SC and have the best of both worlds (you’ll be faster than a stock RS4 and keep the Avant trim).

As for oil consumption, I find I mostly get higher than average consumption on long 7+ hour sustain speed highway drives. I barely get any oil consumption city driving. Since I only do long highway drives once every few years, I haven’t looked into it but I’d be curious what the others have to say.

Yeah the consumption around town is minimal enough to not really notice. It’s just my commutes to other cities that I am required to bring oil.

Having the wagon s/c’d would be ideal hah, a good 400 wheel on tap. I’m hoping to have it on air by the end of next year, adjustability with the roads around here is the only way to go if you want to go low.

I’m considering making the trip down to Cali for the supercharger as the difference in duty and installation vs gas and road trip expenditures is nearly the same if you bring friends!

If you go to Cali, you should go straight to stage 2

Do you notice any black/blue smoke in your rear view when you accelerate hard?
During your normal commutes, do you notice any black/blue smoke during deceleration in traffic, at lights/stop signs?

If no to the above then I think you’re ok. On my previous long drives out into the mountains or other cities, I would burn oil but not as much as I did during my normal commutes to work. Of course, everyones experience is different with oil consumption.

If you’re worried, look into the following:

mileage since PCV replacement
mileage since VCG replacement

Those are the minor issues that would cause someone to consume slightly more than average oil consumption. In my case, I currently have bad valve stem seal leaks so my oil consumption is ridiculous.

Motul is a great oil! I’m considering switching from M1 0W40 to Motul 5W40. Why are you running 5W30 though? I’d consider switching to 40 weight. Besides you’re in a colder climate and you aren’t really benefiting from running thinner oil up there like someone in a hot climate would. You might actually see less oil consumption as well with a switch.
