Diagnosing electrical lighting issue

Hey everyone,

I am having an issue when I turn off my B6 S4 the car will buzz as if I forgot to turn off my headlights regardless if the the headlight switch is in Auto or Off. When I exit the vehicle the headlights and taillights remain on, and won’t go out. If I turn the car on and drive it a few feet and turn it off again, the problem sometimes clears and the lights turn off normal.

I am leaning towards the headlight switch being on its way out, but I thought I would ask here in case there is another opinion or another common issue I am unaware of. Is there a way to test the switch?

Cheers

Scan it and check for codes.

You could also try unplugging the switch and see if the lights stay on. Typically when a switch fails on an Audi then the lights will stay on. Most people notice it with things like brake light switches causing the brake lights to stay on.

To remove the headlight switch you need to turn it to the left past the off setting, push the knob in, keep pushing the knob in and turn it to the right until it stops, and then pull the switch out. It is kind of a weird procedure. Then there should just be some push tabs and you can disconnect the connector.

Ill give it a scan in the morning, thanks for the switch removal procedure! saves me the hastle of googling it

Jimmy it’s so awesome having you here. Great information

Contact codes would be a great start. The switch is removed just like JimmyBones said. It’s good he is here. I could have not explained it that we’ll.

Let us know how it turns out

Thanks man. Between you and me, I think that we have most technical issues covered.

Any update to this?

Not yet! Nova Scotia has been hit by a massive blizzard for the last few days, we had 65 + cm(25" for the Americans) of snow fall on two consecutive days.

I have been shovelling ever since

My S4 is at my other place a few houses down, I wasn’t able to make it over there with all the shoveling :frowning:

Its so bad, that after 8 hours of shovelling and snow blowing, I said screw this, and bought tickets to Cuba for myself and my family.

Spring can’t get here soon enough

So I scanned the car and got some interesting results

So any input on the two parts highlighted in Red?

It appears to be a “sunlight sensor”, also I was taken back that these cars are not Canbus???
