Diagnosing vibration through car

Hey everyone, I just got my car up and running fully and was out driving it hard (it was driving like a dream!) and I got some weird shake/vibration while getting ready for drag racing.

Here are the symptoms:

  1. Car shakes like Jerry Lee Lewis while in any gear at any speed. Its more of a vibration, similar to riding a harley.

  2. The car is very difficult to shift while driving, especially when its revving past 3K

  3. There is a “clack” metal sound when I let off throttle

What I have ruled out/checked

  • I installed the 034 motorsport mounts over the winter so I checked them first, everything is still tight and torqued.
  • I checked the other mounts on the car and they are tight with no play, even when I use a jack.
  • Subframe bolts are still torqued down
  • The three axles I replaced bolts on are tight and torqued(no play)
  • No codes on my scan (checking for misfires or coil packs)
  • I checked under the car, everything seems tight and looks good.
  • I installed a JHM short shifter and it was working perfect (really awesome upgrade) the last two days it became challenging to find reverse despite being perfect following the install. It is now not as bad to put in reverse but kind of clunky, I don’t think its the shifter.

Anyway I am at my wits end, anyone ever encounter this before?

My last guess is that the OEM DM Flywheel couldn’t handle all the new awesome and is now trying to make me go bankrupt. The only thing is, I have never had any indications that my clutch and flywheel had issues prior, (no slipping and very smooth consistent pedal feel, no noise or grinds and etc).

I would love any suggestions.

Thanks

Its an 05 B6 S4 with 103,000 km’s

I would say that is without a doubt the flywheel.

Mine went bad randomly too. I was cruising on the highway. Got off and when I stopped at the end of the off ramp, the car started shaking violently. Didn’t get any codes or anything other than the car shaking like crazy. The biggest sign is if the shaking doesn’t go away and gets worse as the RPMs rise.

All this and you saying the clack says you should check the flywheel.

Time to get a new JHM clutch I guess, It was on the agenda for the fall, guess I better pony up now.

Thanks for the help!
