DIY: Euro Bucket install - Vagcom Coding Inside.

Been slacking on putting this DIY together, and just lost about two hours of work, after hitting the preview button and being logged out… fml not only that but Ive had a rollercoaster of a couple of months with work, got to love strikes! But on the bright side the weather locally has been absolutely gorgeous for the last couple of day’s, so i managed to sneak the RS out of the garage, and what with all this sunshine, fresh air, and unburned fuel coming from the cat-less exhaust, ive been alittle motivated to to finish this up. So with that being said, after you have received and install your nice fancy new to you Recaro/F1’s/Bucket seat’s, and get them installed, you will have something like this: Shameless interior plug

(awaiting pictures from this weekends cruise)

Now you’re probably going to have a nice big red Airbag light on your dash, and depending on how much you are swapping into the car ie; Front seats or Front seats and rear bench, you will have a bunch of codes ie; No side airbags, no rear belt ignitor’s-middle, no passenger occupancy seat sensor, no passenger seat belt switch. To remove these code’s we are simply going to change a few value’s through your handy VAG’ina communication device, by doing this we are basically programming the car as if it would have been coming off the production line, with this “trim/spec package”, that was available to the lucky European market. So let’s Begin!

[u]Photo’s currently being used are for reference only, and are from the Rosstech’s wiki section, which basically means i need a local friend to grab some screen shots for me while I go through this again, and work some MSpaint magic on them, but it is very self explanitory.

Fire up your laptop, connect it to a power supply if needed, and start Vagcom.
Once you are connected and Vagcom is started you will have this page, in the box “Select Control Module” hit “Select”

Then select “15 - Airbags”

Under “Advanced Function’s” hit “Coding”

you will then be brought to the coding page:

Ok try and stay with me here, as it does get a bit confusing, nothing to hard, just alot of numbers meaning alot of diiferent things, please refer to the Vagcom Airbag Wiki, which i have also quoted below.

Your current settings are most likely:
“Software Coding” 043[u]4707 or 043[u]4607. (043[u]46[u]22 - Lee “mutantfatcat” - European car but adding Values for reference.)
which if you match back up to the coding chart on the Vagcom Airbag Wiki. The system needs to check for occupancy sensor, belt warning sensor, and buckle to be operational.

By changing your Coding to:
Software Coding: 043[u]1622 or 043[u]17[b]22
You are now telling the Airbag module to look for/not look for occupancy sensor, and to only receive inputs from the seat belts.
You only need to be changing the numbers I have BOLDED and UNDERLINED. I gave two options because as you can see from Lee’s car, some european vehicles, it seems like Side Impact air bags were only needed for the front of the vehicle, in contrast to North America we are more then likely going to have the Side Impact Airbags Front and Rear. which is a corresponding number 7.

after punching in the new Software Coding, hit Do it!, then exit out of the airbag module. at this point I completely unplug the computer and close Vagcom. I then relaunch the application following steps above, but now your “Software coding” Field should have the new code still remaining! ( ie: 0431622 or 0431722 ) if thats the case, clear any remaining fault codes and bobs your uncle! if Vagcom doesn’t think the settings will work, or doesn’t like the setting’s, it will tell you right away. so in theory you can’t really hurt anything, but with that being said i will say this;

** Disclaimer: Im just providing information to help other DIY’er complete there own, car projects, that they are completing on ones own, if in doubt please contact a professional, I am no way responsible for any damage that happens to your car now, in said future, past, or present, because of the information you used here.** IF YOU ARE UNSURE, PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH

I really hate that kind of BS, but with our law suit happy society lately I feel like its a must, if you have any questions please feel free to shoot me a message! I know Vagcom can be a real “C You Next Tuesday” kind of gal and can be finicky with settings, I have read of people retrofitting stereo’s into one car and the coding work’s fine, but on another car the same coding nothing works? finicky gal.

After the post I linked, scroll down and read through: ( not sure on what Recaro’s he’s installing here, but he also mentions in this thread that he found on a french forum that the Recaro or F1 seats as called on the french forum, did not come with pressure plates/switch, Occupancy sensor. ) - I believe they are talking about the bucket seats though.

This link helped the most, as “Mutantfatcat” was having the exact same error codes that I had:
http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=92040#p459923
^ he also seemed to have found the coding for the bolsters to inflate once the S-Button is pressed, this is what I’m currently playing with.

This thread also backs up the thread from above.

This thread is far from completed, I would like to get proper screen grabs and proper photo’s to help clear up the process, just need to have a few friends assist, again if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to Message me!
Cheers OzcarMeyer

Please view through a Web page as currently the “bolding” and “underling” of certain value’s do not line up properly on Tapatalk. I will try and correct this on a later edit.
