First off let’s talk about what’s going on here:
I’ve got fly’s LED’s for the headlights, and as you’ve seen in my other DIY, I already had the resistors set up for LED DRL & City Lights, so rather than scraping that work I decided to just wire his LED kit up as a independent lighting system. This is easy enough by just running a fused power and ground to the pos & neg of the LED’s and putting a on off switch to interrupt the power.
However, I wanted a bit more, so I bought a relay setup often sold for angel eye kits in the BMW world (just search angel eye wiring kit if link dies). This means there is a relay that when it senses power (or an “on mode”) from either of the two possible sources, it then closes the circuit and sends power to the LED’s to turn them on. With this I could your the fog lights as one trigger source to turn them on, and also wire a on/off switch in the cabin of the car. And having the fogs be one of the trigger sources means that the “coming home” mode would also enable the LED’s to come on.
Okay now that we got the jabber out of the way lets get to the install!
I told fly to just send the pos neg out the back and I’d solder connectors to it so here we go:
Then I tapped into one of the power sources for the fogs. I tapped into it on the car side rather than the bumper side so that I wouldn’t have to remove the connection every time I removed the bumper. I simply used a weather proof wire tap and then covered with liquid electrical tape (just have it so why not use it haha!) Also I installed a 5amp inline fuse here.
Look close and you can see the green wire I routed downwards to connect to the fog wires:
Picture doesn’t give you a great idea, but I installed a simple rocker switch to be my independent power on/off for them inside the cabin. If I was thinking clearer at the time, the easiest way to get power would be to use a piggy back fuse off the fuse box like most people do for radar installs, and do the same for the ground, then you would only need to send one wire back through to the engine bay. However I sent two power and one ground wires to this switch, all using inline fuse relays and then connected directly back to the batter and the wiring kit relay.

Movie of them coming on:

I have had some issues with the coming home lights not always kicking on every time, but haven’t taken the time to see if the tap into the fog power source is the reason for this or not. However, the fogs have never had an issue with coming on via the knob on the inside of the car. I also need to check no minor codes are thrown but not cel.
In addition to this I also did the 5min Fog DIY so I drive around basically all the time with my H.I.D Fogs on, Fly’s LED’s, and City Light. It makes for a really cool look and I can’t tell you how many heads turn to look and see. I’ve also added the smoke lamin-x film on the headlights and fogs, so I’ll try to get a final pic up soon for you all too!
Well, there ya go, hope yall enjoy, and I’ll try to get my last couple DIy’s up soon!
