Friend is buying one and wants some feedback on what options he should get, and what he should avoid.
How’s the radio?
How are the seats?
Anything to avoid? Anything you really dislike about the vehicle?
Thanks

My wife and I have a 2012 Premium plus S-line, pretty much everything you can get except some adaptive cruise and a few other technology add-ons.
Audi MMI Navigation plus is decent, I’m not really a fan of any stock radio/nav…but it gets the job done. We don’t have the Bang and Olufsen system, but the speakers that the MMI plus package sound pretty good.
Seats are great up front, we have been on a few 600 plus mile trips and no complaints. I really like the way the cockpit feels, pretty easy to control everything. A little small in the back for a taller person but I think that is expected. The rear seats do slide a little though. I think our only complaint is the leather, it is nothing like our B7 S4 (silk nappa).
My wife loves the damn thing and I really enjoy taking it on trips. It handles great and even with the 3.2 it feels pretty light on it’s feet when you need to get up and go. If they were available in '12 I would have probably ended up in a 3.0T or the TDI.
The Panorama sunroof is great. The cargo space is pretty decent, but we also got a roof box for long trips.
I think the Sline package is a must, just really gives the car a sporty feel and look…Probably like a $1500 add on.
Electronic steering was weird at first, but I’ve decided I kinda like it.
Daytona Grey Pearl…Amazing color
Honestly we don’t have one legitimate complaint about the Q5, it is great for us right now with our small family.
Dirty Dirty Rochester snow…

^pretty killer lookin little SUV there euro
Thanks man, hopefully we can get another 4ring car soon. All I cared about is my wife liking it and she loves it.
That’s actually the best looking q5 I’ve seen. Your move cory_can lol
I think navigation is a must. The latest gen MMI is a real upgrade over the last in terms of useability and ease of use. B&O does sound great. The stock sound system is like the b6/7 base system IMHO. I don’t own one but seriously looked into one. Lots of test drives, loaner, mucking about with the MMI in the showroom
My wife was partial to the Scuba Blue, which I also like, but the Daytona Grey is also an excellent colour.
Ours is a 3.0T Premium (or “Technik” or whatever the highest one is these days) SLine with NAV, B&O etc. The TDi would have certainly been a consideration if it was available.
The pictures below were taken shortly before we had a trailer hitch put on. We use the Q5 to pull a ~3800lbs camping trailer and it does a superb job. Even though it’s rated above all of its competitors in the segment (4400lbs) more would have always been better. It’s not that it doesn’t easily pull what we have, it would have just been nice to get something larger The other unfortunate related item is that Audi doesn’t support weight distributing hitches on the Q5 so you have to be aware of tongue weight. It’s pre-wired for a brake controller. We use a Tekonsha P3.
When the NAV system is optioned it also adds streaming BT, which we find incredibly handy.
The B&O audio system is a nice add for the money they ask for it. The standard system was lacking IMO.
The Sline (at least in Canada) adds full ADS which I find very useful in this type of vehicle. Comfort mode for cruising, tighter feel when you want it sporty. It also adds the adjustable leg supports which I find a necessity for my longer legs.
As “euroswagr” above, this is my wife’s car and she loves it, as do I. Before test driving it I was put off by the Q5 and the death of the wagon. However it didn’t take long to be impressed, especially with the 3.0T. It serves our needs 90% of the time for family adventures and the other 10% we put a box on the roof

^ great color blue and sharp looking. Pretty good duel between the two.
What wheels are those on the two q5s shown? Euro are those stock q5 peelers?
I think S-line only adds ADS on the TECHNIK or top of the line model. Doesn’t add it on the Progressif.
Ours are the 19" “5-arm star design” standard in the Sline package.
Could be. The packages have changed from '13 to '14.
I have 20" titanium pacakge wheels, I look at my invoice to see what Audi calls them. I know the black optic package is available again, but I’ve only seen it on the TDIs.
Sline package was purely aesthetic in '12, beside the addition of trim and steering wheel paddles I believe.
black optics didn’t show up as an option when I was looking at the Canadian q5 configurator today
S-line includes nicer trim, steering wheel, nicer seats, body package and nicer wheels I believe. Available on the top of the line and the other one (there’s only 2 levels on Diesels here…4 levels overall for the 2.0T etc)
Daytona Grey with Black Optics looks awesome Euro. You should consider finding a 2008 to match that for yourself. Contact winter-runner. He just needs someone to shove him over the edge.
This should help, but like I said…things have changed since 2012
Also, for some reason I can only find a trim package like our Q5 in the TDI like below. I can never find a 3.0T Sline, black optic package…kinda weird. I also think I tried to build one on the Audi site and the option wasn’t available for the 2.0T or 3.0T, which was really disappointing.
Thanks for the compliments guys and Cory your wife’s Q5 looks great too, love that blue.
I fucking like that flat bottom steering wheel!

We have a 2014 SQ5 Glacier White Premium Plus. Went the blk/blk Alcantara, Black wood w/Alum inlays, B&O and Nav package. Oh, and the tow hitch.
As seems to be the trend, it is my wife’s car, but she loves it. I dig it too, as it really is quite quick and driving it with the paddles is pretty fun. The 8spd fires off almost violent shifts when in Dynamic/S mode.
We have the 19" peelers for winter and I’m trying (failing so far) to find some of the 20" Ti Peelers like you have euro. We like the look of the peelers better than the OEM SQ5 wheels. So, if anyone is interested in selling some and/or trading or knows someone…please let me know.

Love those stock wheels. Like D3 S8 wheels. What size are they? We have the OEM S4 ones in 18" as winters on our B8 Avant.
The 20" ones are also known as RS6 reps. Some Rs4 owners have them. Ask around. BadDriverBlueRs4 has some I think.
I don’t own a Q5 but recently Mom’s lease was due on her Lexus RX. I suggested she look at several Audi’s, drove the A7, Allroad, Q5 and a SQ5. She really wanted something in blue. My influence steered her to Audi but she opted for the SQ5.
It’s gorgeous inside and out. The seats, steering wheel, B&O, ride quality, power, etc etc. I love it. In fact, I would seriously consider buying it from her when it comes time to turn it in. She doesn’t abuse her cars, she keeps the miles low and does the speed limit + 5mph. She also has quite a few ponies lurking in her garage.

Can we trade moms?
Can we trade moms?
Haha! I’m sure your mom is wonderful but I’ll keep mine.
Funny thing, it was the blue the sold her. She tells me she likes the power (compared to her Lexus) but she added “sometimes it scares me, I don’t know what I hit”. It’s called the gas pedal!
Lol. In '84 my mom ended up with a Renault Alliance because she could get it in black. That was the only criteria. It ran for 16 years and 350,000
