Well long story short my motor is pulled to rebuild my heads because of leaking valve stem seal in 2 cylinders. Just my luck that it was one cylinder in each head, just to make it more fun. Also, while the motor was out I contacted JHM about getting my bottom end built and they weren’t very helpful about a timeline for their engine build program or taking me on as a beta tester so I was discouraged from there. I understand they are doing something that hasn’t been done so no negativity towards them, I just don’t want to wait until…whenever or forever.
So I started to think about a 2.7tt swap, a few guys have done it with decent results. I’m sure a few B6/B7 guys won’t want to hear that, but the 2.7 is a motor with a ton of parts and it CAN BE BUILT, unlike the 4.2. I understand not much comes out of some of the B5 S4 builds, but that isn’t me. I run my car at the track and demand results. I didn’t have all of the details worked out but it would have been or will be an RSR setup.
So I set out to find a motor, ECU, etc., which I would have to hope ran and didn’t have 100k miles or more. This is when I discovered copart.com, which I heard about but had no experience with. I found a wrecked 01 with front end damage right here in NC. I put it on my watch list and planned to bid on it. It ran and drove and had 80k miles, engine was very clean too. I figured I could pick it up, sell off the stuff I didn’t need, this way I would no 100% if the car ran, I also could have checked it for codes and would have all of the wiring and accessories.
The day came and I missed the live online bidding because of a meeting at work, the car went for $1450, I was kicking myself. But to my surprise it showed backup on my watchlist later that day so I called copart and they said it was reposted by the seller because of minimum bid or some BS.
So I read up on the copart minimum bid, which is set by the seller, but you cannot view this amount until after you win the auction. So I knew about it but didn’t really care.
So 2 days later I got to bid on the car and I wasn’t letting it slip by me again, so I won it for $1800. After the auction ended it needed approved by the seller. I soon got an email that said the seller’s minimum was $3800. I instantly decided $2000 was the max amount I’d pay and sent them the offer. After haggling I got them down to $2500.I decided to accept and when I logged back on about 4 hours after the email for the offer it was gone!! The car was back up and scheduled for auction again today. I was pretty pissed that they just cancel everything and throw it back up for sale with no warning.
So today I made the auction and I bid on the car once again in their live auction VB2 system. While in the auction the car came up, I bid twice and at $2300 it counted down and said that I won. I logged out and went to do a few things at work. I went to check my account a little bit later to see if the seller accepted it and the car was gone once again, so I called copart. The lady on the phone was very rude and said there was another bid after mine and I lost. I said the online auction said I was the winner and all she said was sorry. So I was pretty pissed and I think their setup is a bunch of BS.
Does anyone else have experience with them? If so let me know good or bad and share your story. Also, for anyone looking to bid with them beware of all of the loop holes and fees added on after you win.
