Down pipe install

Just got my Texturk downpipes and will probably be installing them this upcoming weekend.

However being Catless I will more than likely get a CEL correct?

Is there a way to get rid of the CEL or will I have to just wait until I get my JHM tune?

Thanks for any help!

just wait for the tune.

for install? or to get rid of the CEL?

You can buy O2 spacers, or make your own by dremeling out a pair of spark plug defilers stacked on each other (both do the same thing, slightly recess the O2 sensor to make it that less air passes buy to make the car think that the precats are working fine). Only people who really do this are the ones debating not going to a JHM tune, but a large bit of performance from piggies/catless is being left on the table without a tune for the dp’s.

The rear O2’s only real purpose is helping set long term fuel trims. You’ll definitely throw a cel after about 60-80 miles, but you can clear it or just deal with it until you get a tune (which I’d say get the JHM tune).

I’d say just go ahead and order the tune, and deal with the CEL (or clear it) until you get the tune in and then you won’t ever have to worry about it again.

To get rid of the CEL.

I’m living with the CEL, until I get my tune. You’re going to love them.

I fortunately had a 50 mile drive home to fully begin to enjoy them after Trexturk did them for me.

How were they for fitment??

So far anything Trexturk seems to fit like a glove. He has always done solid work and its great he offers them at a price anyone can afford.

As for the CEL. I would suggest taking out your ECU the same day you start the down pipe swap. There is no need to have the car down for a few days and not have used that time well.

IF you think about it. If your going to do the install over the weekend. Get the ECU out Friday and send it out before you pull the car in for the weekend. If you do the shipping right you can have the ECU back in your hand Tuesday morning.

Thats my take. Don’t so spacers. Wait or send out the ECU.

I actually had Trexturk do em for me. I drove out to his shop since that was an option for me, since I also had him cut my neckdowns off my FI catback so I’m true 2.5"

How did he connect your dp’s to the catback after cutting off the neckdown? my FI catback is necked down to my stock dp’s, and I’m really thinking about trying to get my own set of trexturk dp’s. Did he just use a stock like clamp that is 2.5 inches? I need to find a shop in Texas that would do it, most are afraid to touch a catless exhaust.

Do the tune and the downpipes at the same time if possible. Don’t waste your money on spacers. If you run downpipes with out the tune, the CEL will come on. When I did mine it took about 200 miles for that to happen.

The fitment on the pipes was great. I had to slightly bend one bracket to get it to line up but other than that everything went smoothly.

He expanded the end of the downpipes to be larger than 2.5" and then put exhaust clamps over it. You can kinda see it in this picture on the right hand side.

^ I believe it’s called a “swedge.” Pipe expansion, I have that on my mufflers.

Install went quite flawlessly, took me and a buddy about 3 hours start to finish!

One slight fitment issue, but we got it sorted.
I am on the fence as far as the sound! its a tad raspy, but I’m sure when I swap from my stasis to an x-piped catback it’ll tone that down a bit.

Pics/ vids to come.

Catless cars are always more raspy

Get a resonated exhaust to tone the raspyness down

resonated for the win. Sounds pure.

JHM all motor vs. VF supercharged video defines that for me. At the beginning, the rip Jay does when they show the JHM car is fucking heavenly sounding.
