What a numpty I look walking up to a once 70k car, and having to open the rear door to get my drivers door open ;D
About every 1 in 5 goes it does open ok, been fine since purchased, now like it for about 2 weeks, it came on all of a sudden.
Might just be sticky I guess… anyone else had this issue.
Remote battery dying? Both my drivers and drivers rear doors won’t lock using the button on them and take a double pull on the handle to unlock. They go bad after lot of use.
maybe locking mechanism is stop working, thats happened on my seat leon, it dont wanna open door from outside, just from inside. vcds shove motor mechanism fault. so its probably in locked position all time
Do you have a vag com. There is section for central locking. If there were big issues with that section of the car you wouldnt get a CEL as its not emmisions related but it would be good to start looking in that section as that might help tell us where to start looking.
If this is a vacumm system it could be just do to the change in weather. Do you live in a cold climate.

I had a problem where the door locks worked, but the door did not open from the outside—it worked fine from the inside latch. It was traced to a problem with a frequently failing micro-switch that somehow didn’t respond to the outside door handle. I had to replace the latch.
